Naylor takes third at North County TournamentPosted Thursday, December 31, 2009, at 10:54 AM
BONNE TERRE -- Naylor got off to a big early lead against Lesterville on Wednesday night but the Lady Bearcats didn't go away lightly in a 60-58 victory for the Lady Eagles in the third-place game in the North County Tournament.
Naylor, who led by 15 after the first quarter, let Lesterville chip away at the Lady Eagles' lead the rest of the game. Naylor missed eight straight free throws down the stretch in the fourth but still hung on to take the third-place trophy. Naylor (6-3), who entered the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead, shot just 33 percent from the line on the night. "We're gonna focus on that a little bit in practice this weekend," Naylor coach Gene Deckard said. Naylor junior Katelyn Hughey had big night scoring 21 points. "We always thought she could do things like that and (Wednesday) night she just broke out," Deckard said. Senior Moriah Goodrum added 22 points.
