Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
Class 1 and 2 wrap with stats; Notre Dame up next
We're just over an hour away from the start of Class 3 pool play, which will of course include the Notre Dame Bulldogs.
I will of course be live-blogging during those games, but for now I want to put a bow, so to speak, on the pool play from Classes 1 and 2.
Scott City will face Hermann is the Class 2 final for a second consecutive year, while Lesterville will face Winona for the Class 1 title.
I got a chance to talk to Scott City coach Haley Jennings and a few players before the left Municipal Auditorium here in Kansas City, so I'll share their thoughts a little later tonight. The Rams were 4-2 in pool play but dropped both games to Hermann, which swept Scott City in two meetings at the final four a year ago.
The consensus seemed to be that the Rams allowed themselves to be intimidated by Hermann early on, resorting to tipping when they should have been swinging and getting frustrated by the Bearcats' variety. They say they've got that out of their system now.
Lesterville finished pool play 5-1. Winona was the only team to get a game off Lesterville in pool play.
