Notre Dame wins at SCC 71-62

Posted Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 11:40 PM

You can check out all the live updates I provided (or tried to provide when my internet connection would allow) below. One important note is the final score of the game was 71-62, not 69-62 as the scoreboard showed. Notre Dame made one last shot at the buzzer that was counted by the officials.

There was much talk about this match up in the forums leading up to the tip and I'm sure the talk will continue for a few days.

I'll perform a standing golf-clap later tonight in someone's honor. I'll check out who in a bit after I get the high school scoreboard posted.

Hey Crader would it be against the law to change the name of Cover it Live to Crader it Live LOL???

I'm sure if you contact Kenyon Wright he will make every effort to accommodate you. He is one of the best athletic directors in Southeast Missouri.

I predict Scott County Central will defeat Notre Dame 78-58. However, to offer a more accurate prediction I would need to know how many points each team is averaging this season. I think you should give out free tickets to a Redhawks game to the lucky winner Crader!!!! GO REDHAWKS

I would not be surprised if ND wins. On the other hand, I would be surprised if SCC wins by 20 or more.

SCC 82 ND 58

I think this game will be the biggest indication of how SCC has adapted to the loss of Stewart Johnson. If he were still playing I wouldn't hesitate to take SCC by 20+.

SCC 78 ND 73

I just don't see anyone on ND's team scoring besides Tolbert. Nobody on that team outside of Tolbert, has the ability to create a shot, they won't get the easy buckets that they normally get in transition, and they definitely won't get easy putbacks.

SCC by 15 or 20.

ND wins with great time management, boxing out for the rebound, free throw shooting, keeping turn overs down and that never quit attitude theyve always had since the stone age.Don't try to out run SCC,its not gonna happen.Keep the score in the 60's and why not try a zone packing the middle and targeting Hatchetts every move. You have the 2 1 2,2 3 and the box and 1 zones.Good luck to bothteams and KEEP IT CLEAN!!!!

Tolbert must use his body like Hansborough on Otto!!!!

I don't see this being much of a game. SCC wins easy.

Notre Dame 69 SCC 62 Final. Surprising.

Interesting.. reading these posts there would be NO WAY Notre Dame had a chance at winning this game. And what do they do? :)

-- Posted by redhawkstudent on Tue, Jan 26, 2010, at 9:46 PM

Isn't it funny how all of us were way off about a 3A team that is legit beating a 1A team? It is always fun when the small school is favored but believe me I thought itd be a route by SCC. Congrats ND.

They win. I say this every year, never count out Notre Dame.

ND is Class 4.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Tue, Jan 26, 2010, at 11:08 PM

sorry, that makes it even better.

-- Posted by SemoIndian88 on Tue, Jan 26, 2010, at 11:17 PM

Just shows what a force SCC is in Class 1.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Tue, Jan 26, 2010, at 11:22 PM

scc will win out and win the 1a championship again. nd played their best game and in my opinion, they played to their true potential. if they play like this for the rest of the year, they will beat sikeston and have a great chance to beat borgia.

Will there be a box score posted for this game tonight?

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 12:37 AM

N/m. Just saw where the story was posted.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 12:40 AM

I'll add the box to the scoreboard as well, FarmBoy. We were just a little rushed getting the print edition put to bed on time. (Lots of lingo for you there!)

what..no recruiting comments about ND???

-- Posted by peter_grant on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 9:25 AM

Great game Notre Dame!!!!It may be ND (vs) Borgia.....

-- Posted by jayjayblue on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 11:14 AM

Peter----

Notre Dame has done a great job recruiting....they recruited Paul Hale from Dexter and then Recruited Kevin Roberts from SEMO....they also recruited Brother David from New York....they recruit great teachers and staff every year!!! Keep recruiting ND, go out and keep finding the best!! ;)

-- Posted by RedShirt on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 11:35 AM

You also did a great job recruiting the Director of Special Education. Oh, wait a minute, you get to pick and choose who gets into your school. Nevermind.

-- Posted by robbincrosby on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 5:17 PM

Basically anyone willing to pay gets in, excluding those who have serious discipline problems or convictions. Notre Dame cannot afford a special education program since they do not get state funding for it.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 6:09 PM

Last time I checked this was a sports website about High school sports, not a place for lowdowns to come and post comments about others schools. correct me if im wrong

-- Posted by <123> on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 6:23 PM

Lowdowns?? Well, aren't you elite? I wish I could buy you for what you're worth and sell you for what you think you're worth.

-- Posted by robbincrosby on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 7:09 PM

If you get on a message board to criticize a high school and make accusations without proof, then I'd say you probably aren't a person with a whole lot of class or integrity. Get over yourself robbin, you're talking trash just like the rest of the folks.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 7:39 PM

Please tell me what I stated that was inaccurate. Look around that campus and tell me with a straight face that ND "cannot afford" whatever they choose to fund.

-- Posted by robbincrosby on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 7:50 PM

Boosters will gladly put up money for a new baseball field or a gym. Not so much when it comes to providing a teacher for kids who have learning disabilities, plus providing aids and extra classrooms. That's just how people are, sad but true. ND is lucky to receive some very generous donations to have what they have (not to mention a LOT of hard work by the students during Activity Week), but again, a special education program isn't something that would be a "fun" thing to make a big donation for, especially when there are currently no special ed students there to use the program.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 7:54 PM

In the future, please refrain from questioning my class or integrity and then compose a sentence stating "a special education program isn't something that would be a "fun" thing to make a big donation for". I suppose all special needs children are just poor, non-Catholic or SOL.

-- Posted by robbincrosby on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 8:18 PM

For someone calling others elitist, you sure are on your high horse (not to mention subpar reading comprehension). If you people are going to get as excited about making a donation to support a special ed program as they are to support an athletic team, you're nuts. That's the point I was making, apparently you missed the 'sad but true' statement. Read my post next time, stop trying to seem so smart. Not working for ya so far.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 10:27 PM

correction: "If you THINK people are going to get as excited....."

It's just not going to happen. Right or wrong, people aren't going to get hyped up about a special ed class. They aren't going to get on message boards and type about it. That's just the way it is, and it's that way everywhere. So basically, if there isn't a donation for it, ND has to pay out of their own pocket which I doubt they can afford (pretty sure when you factor in added classrooms, extra teacher or two, aids, etc, it's going to be expensive).

Last thought on this issue....why the hell are we discussing the lack of a special ed program anyway? Why is that even relevant to ANYthing on this thread, or to the sport of basketball? Sounds like you just want something else to whine and complain about.

-- Posted by FarmBoy06 on Wed, Jan 27, 2010, at 10:39 PM

My reasoning for making a post about ND not having a spec. ed. program was to prove a point. A poster (Redshirt) made a comment about how ND recruits such great coaches (they do and they are) as if to say that's the sole reason they are good. However, great players help make great coaches and when you can draw from anywhere in Southeast Mo. (or Southern Ill.) it's pretty darn easy to field a good team in whatever sport they play. To constantly pretend that ND plays on an even playing field with public schools is laughable.

I chose to use the special ed. situation as one example of many that private school can use to control their enrollment and their environment. You may see this as sour grapes. You may be right. It just sucks come playoff time that public school kids have to face assembled All-Star teams in order to advance in the playoffs. I'm in no way trying to demean the students or the coaches at ND and I commend them for using the rules to their advantage. The main issue lies on the shoulders of the MSHSAA but lets please stop pretending that the playing field is in any way level.

omg robbinscrosby you are an idot...sorry if that takes away from the "blog" or whatever...i dont care at this point...you wanna make excuses as to why ND beats you, go right ahead...no one cares and no ones listening...WE DONT RECRUIT...ppl CHOOSE to come here WITHOUT help from any coaches or any administration...and ANYONE can go ANYWHERE in semo...i live not far outside of kelso and i CHOSE to go to ND...i could go to cape central, i could go to scott central, i could go to sikeston, i could go to chaffee, oran, kelly, jackson, bell city...i could go ANYWHERE i please...all I'd have to do is pay a little bit of money if i was out of the district....and yea, we can have ppl from Illinois, but you cant really say that crap because NO ONE on ND's team is from Illinois...the reason ND always has a reasonably good team is because of a little something called hard work...maybe you should try it sometime!
