Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

The Jackson Legion team eliminated Poplar Bluff with a win in the first game of the District 14 tournament on Saturday. Click here to read play-by-play from that game.
Now Dunklin County and Cape are facing off in the winner's bracket. I'll provide an update every half inning.

Logan Morris starts on the mound for Cape.
Garret Stockton and Jake Welch reached base to start the game. (I missed what happened.) Parker Watkins followed with a homer to give Dunklin County an early 3-0 lead. Heath Horvath struck out and Aaron Booker struck out. Austin Jackson grounded out to first base.

Jake Pewitt reached on an error by the second baseman. Blake Smith was hit by a pith. Ryan Grigaitis narrowly avoids a double play with a fielder's chose to third. Smith is out at second. Dustin Crowden hits a fielder's choice to the shortstop, who step on second to force out Grigaitis after bobbling the ball. Pewitt scores. Skylar Cobb struck out.

Adam Grantham replaced Tyler Thomas with Dunklin County leading 10-5. One out in the inning.
Skylar Cobb singled on the first pitch he saw, bring Crowden home. Trent St. Cin homered over the left field fence to bring Cape within two at 10-8. Josh Compas struck out. Jimmy Obermark walked. Josh Hiett singled, bringing home Obermark. Logan Edwards replaced Adam Grantham. Pewitt walked before Essner grounded back to the pitcher to end the inning.

Jeremy Essner took over on the mound for Cape.
Garret Stockton got a single. Jake Welch hit into a 3-6-3 double play. Parker Watkins walked. Heath Horvath popped up to shortstop.

Ryan Grigaitis hit a long fly ball to centerfield that was caught on the warning track before Dustin Crowden and Sylar Cobb were quickly retired.
