Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
Football Schedules and Pigskin Pick'em's Return (Fixed and Updated)
With soap games (Seriously? That much soap is needed? Gatorade games I can get behind...) and jamborees scheduled for this week, it is officially time to launch the 2010 version of Pigskin Pick'em.
For those who didn't play last season, Pigskin Pick'em (Which I type as Pickskin Pick'em without fail. It will be remarkable if I get through this blog without messing it up) is our high school and now NFL contest that allows you to pick who you think will win each week. Pick well and you'll win one of our many prizes.
I already mentioned that we've expanded the contest this season to include both high school games from all 17 semoball.com football teams as well as NFL teams, but we've also added more prizes. This season there are weekly and overall runner-up prizes to go along with the prizes for our winners each week and at the end of the season.
You can get all the details and sign up for both contests here, but I'll tell you that the local grand prize for the NFL contest is a complete home entertainment system from Stereo One valued at $1,300 (We're talking plasma TV and a surround sound system here people.) The prize for being the high school champion is a Super Bowl party for you and 24 of your closest friends courtesy of Domino's.
Please feel free to start claiming victory will be yours in the comments below, although I'm putting my money on Headhunt just on principle. (Apologies to football monkey.)
Hopefully you've noticed that we've been updating the site daily with dozens of schedules for the 2010 season. Every football schedule has been updated on the high schools' individual pages, which you can find by using the "Schools" drop-down menu in the navigation bar above.
Here are all the football schedules in one place for your convenience.
Be sure to check the high school pages for schedules from other sports. Many have been added and many more will be added each day. If your school's schedules have not been added yet, feel free to e-mail them to me at rcrader@semissourian.com. I've sent out requests to all 58 semoball schools asking for their schedules and searched pretty much every school website, but there are still plenty I haven't been able to track down.
OK, I think I'm ready for another high school sports season to start. Are you?
