Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
Pigskin Pick'em Week 1 Winners - Congrats bigpopa and druby012
Congrats to bigpopa for winning Week 1 of Pigskin Pick'em!
Bigpopa picked every game correctly for a perfect score of 16 and guessed that the final score of the Cape Central-New Madrid County Central game would be 35-14 Cape (actual score: 41-6 Cape) to win the tiebreaker.
Bigpopa will receive three Domino's Pizzas and an oil change from Jackson Tire Center for the weekly win.
Congrats are also in order for druby012, who also finished with a perfect score and was awarded second place after guessing Cape Central would beat NMCC 35-21.
Druby012 will receive a Meal Deal for Popeye's.
We'll contact you all in the coming days with details about how to get your prizes.
Honorable mentions go to dogbreath, jessnjason and kidrayray for also getting perfect scores of 16 this week. Sorry you didn't get a prize, but you are fantastic shape for the grand prize at the end of the season, which is a Super Bowl party for 25 from Domino's.
Last but certainly not least, I must acknowledge the domination of Marty Mishow, known as mmishow on Pigskin Pick'em, in the Southeast Missourian newsroom. As some of you have probably seen, those of us who work in the Missourian's newsroom are having our pick displayed for all the world to ridicule in the paper each week...only no one will be able to ridicule Marty since he also was perfect on the week.
He told me last night he did his research before making his picks. Maybe I'll try that next time? Or at least try to do it better.
I finished with a paltry eight points this week, which I hope means that no one will be upset if I don't pick his or her team in the future. I'm clearly clueless. :)
The good news is I didn't finished last among the "experts" (quotation marks added with a purpose)...that honor goes to Jeff Breer and his seven points. Hear, hear!
For those of you who are not already playing it is not to late to sign up. You could be next week's winner. Click here to get started.
