Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Looky, looky who got a first-place vote this week. I guess one staff was swayed by last week's extensive discussion about the Sikeston boys. While the Bulldogs are still ranked behind Scott County Central, they earned their first first-place vote since January 12th after finishing their regular season with a 24-0 record.

The records listed below are through Sunday. This will be the final poll of the regular-season.

How the rankings are determined:

The sports staff at each of the newspapers that contribute to semoball are given a vote -- that includes the Daily American Republic (Poplar Bluff), Daily Dunklin Democrat (Kennett), Dexter Daily Statesman, Sikeston Standard Democrat and Southeast Missourian. Each staff is free to determine how they want to complete its ballot, but there are 12 total people that cover sports for those papers all across the semoball coverage area.

David Jenkins of the Standard Democrat tallies to the votes. A first-place vote is worth ten points, a second-place vote is worth nine points and so on.

Inspector gadget mugged one of the voters, took his ballot and placed the first place vote for Sikeston. That's really the only way Team Otto couldn't have gotten all of the first place votes.

Nothing but love man. If Sikeston wins their district, they would play their sectional game at Mineral Area Community College in Park Hills with the weird seating and Subway stand. That game is on March 2 at 6 P.M. and will be against either Farmington or DeSoto.

It's been like that since Sunday Bob. Glad to see SEMO having two of the top four spots though it'll take a Sikeston loss for SCC to pass them. There aren't anymore strong teams on SCC's schedule since Class 1 has so few good teams. Maplewood and Kennett were the last two big, big games for them.

I watched Sikeston crush Fredericktown tonight at Dexter. First Sikeston game I've seen. They're good and deep. Looks like Sikeson has been watching SCC play.

Who has losses to Grandview 53-37, Ruskin 69-38, Bishop Seabury 41-40, Cameron 47-35, Nixa 62-45, Hillcrest 53-43, Oak Grove 59-51..

Gadget, Grandview had actually dropped out of the rankings. The new top ranked team from Districts 13-16 Platte County was defeated sometime in districts as well. It just kind of shows that the people making the rankings know very little about who they are picking as well. After putting Sikeston as #1, Soldan as #2, then Hillcrest and Rogersville as 3 and 4, it is pretty much a crapshoot in my opinion. Mexico has only lost one game but their schedule was as weak as the Arcadia Valley team that went unbeaten in the regular season last year. Grandview and Platte County are both out. Miller Career got upset. Borgia isn't nearly as good as last year and Helias got beat by Notre Dame. I'd say that this year comes down to any of the first four I mentioned. I don't see any other team standing any real chance. Dribble, who exactly is this team that is just supposed to come in and take out Sikeston? No Bulldog fans thinks the team is unbeatable but no one who has picked against them has had the answer of which team that is going to be.

Have to say the bottom of the state bracket looks tough, the only ranked team on the top half is Sikeston since Miller career lost to Imagine college. But the there's only 2 in the bottom half that are NOT ranked with Duchesne and the winner of district 12, the only reason there isnt more on bottom is because #3Hillcrest beat #5Rogersville for their district. Don't know who will come out of the bottom of the bracket but looks like they will be well conditioned unless there are just too many overrated teams in class 4. Sikeston SHOULD make it to the championship, but I'm unsure if they can win it.

My thinking is that there are pretty much three levels to the good teams in Class 4. Level 1: Sikeston, Soldan. Level 2: Hillcrest, Rogersville. Level 3: Everybody else. There has been so much jumping around of rankings because no team has been able to stay consistent other than the ones I mentioned and Mexico with their weak schedule. There's always the possibility of an upset. However, Sikeston, Soldan, and Hillcrest have shown to be head and shoulders above most everybody else.

SCC defeated Maplewood by 34,Maplewood defeated Soldan in overtime,and Soldan will defeat Sikeston in the final 4..Just my prediction,you wanted to know who,well there it is...I hope I'm wrong but thats what I think..We will know in a couple of weeks,good luck!!!

Sikeston played them in the PB Christmas tournament in Michael's junior year...I think. We turbo clocked them and they won the Class 3 title that year!

So Maplewood beat Solden and SCC turboclocked Maplewood. Ok that is good stats!!

You played Kennett and won on senior night at home by 32 points. We played Kennett on the road and won by 25 points.

You played NMCC on neutral site and won by 43. We played them on the road and won by 42 on their homecoming.

You played Charleston at home won by 29. We played Charleston on the road and won by 27.

You played Jackson on neutral site and won by 41. We played Jackson at home and won by 34 the first time and they slowed it down to a crawl the second time and we beat them by 28.

We can compare like opponents all day long but how in the world do u get a team that you turboclocked, then they beat the team you predict us to lose against? Just really does not make much since considering we are about the same score on like opponents. Can you explain that DA?

i just feel that sikeston will beat themselves,they cant seem to handle high stress games when it counts.they are far better than notre dame yet notre dame nearly ended their season.they need to travel more and play the toughest teams they can,a perfect season looks nice on paper,but what counts is the trophy at the end.i think they could have beat scc but they didnt want to take the chance on a loss. it would of showed them what they will be up against at state.final four they will stumble

I was only comparing the one that I thought would matter.Those other games the main players only played about 3 quarters,take a look at the box scores.When SCC played "Kennett" the Braves cleared the bench about half way in the 4th quarter,Kennett kept their starters in,and that's ok it happens a lot!!!"JACKSON", SCC had them by 50+ in the 3rd when the bench went in..Just Say'n you have to look at the whole game!I hope your Bulldogs win a state championship, but if you get defeated by Soldan I think it shows how far behind SCC you really are...Just Say'n that's MY opinion,didn't mean to upset you,sorry!

But, IF Sikeston and Soldan do happen to play and say Soldan MIGHT win, how would that put Sikeston far behind SCC when SCC didn't play Soldan? I see your reasoning, but how can you compare when ther won't even be a like opponent? I think you could compare if Sikeston played MRH again, but that didn't happen either, so it's all just a matter of one's opinion with no validity.

Dribble obviously your a ND fan, which i guess you forget is probably one of the most deadly teams to sikeston.. It doesnt matter if sikeston was 2-29 and ND was 25-0.. Its going to be a good game reguardless.. When was the last blowout game by either team?? And handle tough games? WERE 26-0 we've been down, we've came back.. Can't you just give sikeston the credit we've EARNED..

I guess you havent seen who we will probably have it both teams that CAN make it to the final 4.. it SHOULD be Sikeston and Harrisonville.. I like sikeston's chances..

I know it's tough thing to swallow not having either team make it out of districts but put your big boy pants on and move on..

Sikeston has what it takes to win a state championship, and your just stupid if you don't realize it.. They have MORE then enough expiernce.. They've lost to borgia here recently.. Do you think these seniors don't remember that? I guess you don't remember how these seniors responded friday night when they went down.. They came out on a MISSION, and they pulled out the W.. Everybody is 0-0 when districts rolls around.. And ND proved they weren't going to just roll over.. I love how every ND fan is getting on here now saying how sikeston SHOULD have just blown them out of the water.. get out of here..

And DAOLDFAT.. Your a grown man acting like a high school kid with this hate of sikeston.. EVERY SIKESTON FAN is giving SCC their props, and we all know they SHOULD win class 1.. They probably will.. but is it CERTAIN.. NO.. if they lose, you will never hear the end of it.. If sikeston wins, does that mean their better then SCC.. If SCC wins and sikeston loses does it mean that SCC is better then Sikeston? No.. We'll never know who is better, because they didnt get to paly.. I mean seriously, get over whatever happened in your life to hate sikeston and just wish us goodluck, Your EXTREMELY biased, and you'll pick whoever that could beat us to beat us.. I don't care if you want us to lose, and thats fine.. But your reasoning for wanting us to lose, is to prove that SCC is better.. Thats just stupid..

If you read my post you would see that I said "I HOPE SIKESTON WINS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP" I really do,that would be great!!!I was stating my opinion, as you are.... didn't me to upset you, but my opinion of "SCC vs Sikeston" SCC wins by at least 20+ maybe worse,so just be glad they didn't play and move on to the final four and GOOD LUCK..Again just an opinion sorry if it upset you...

It's all woulda, coulda, shoulda. It's like you are so obsessed with trying to prove that SCC is SOOOO much better than Sikeston that you keep throwing out different ways you think that they are. There's only one way to know who's better than who and it's not going to happen. So we could all say Sikeston would win by 50 or SCC would win by 50, but it's all just one big idiotic argument. I really think you might need to seek professional help for your problem.

All the conjecture aside, Old Cat, I know people have been dogging you about your pick and "hating Sikeston" and all. That isn't the reason behind my question. I'm just trying to figure this out. So SCC dominates Maplewood who beat Soldan. You saw Maplewood. If Maplewood beat Soldan and you think Soldan would beat Sikeston, do you think Maplewood is better than Sikeston? That does sound to me like a bit of the "There's no way Sikeston is better than SCC" bias. I have no problem with the opinion that Soldan could beat Sikeston. They are the two best teams in Class 4 for a reason. But your logic doesn't make a reasonable argument to back up your opinion.

sorry inspector didnt mean to step on your toes i was just calling it how i saw it.the dawgs are good and have a deep bench no doubt.but im afraid that they might run in to a school that is great with a bench then we will be in trouble.they need to play more talent, go looking for a challenge rather than coasting thu the season. i think it will hurt them at columbia ,sorry no title again

Yes, dribble....toughening up their schedule is the answer. The year ND won state, they played in the Meadow Heights tournament!! What a loaded tournament for a Class 4 team (no offense to the small schools in that tournament)!! It is such a great test for them that ND has dropped the tournament altogether. And....by your reasoning, SCC wouldn't have a chance ar winning state unless they played Chicago Simeon and the other BIG team. Yeah, right......

I know the SCC faithful are happy that they scheduled those games!!!

scc is a class 1 school its alot easier for them to play up than it is for sikeston to do so. thats why sikeston has to go the extra mile when they want to better themselves.get in more shootouts tougher torneys play the tough schools.the easy schedule will hurt tham when it counts.1,2 and 3a schools wont win them a title

The scheduling topic has been ran into the ground worse than Mugsy Bogues taking a charge on Shaq. You can't just decide to be in a shootout or tournament. You have to be invited! That is why many of them are called INVITATIONALS.

All the talk about SCC vs. Sikeston is soooooooooo old. After all, the better team does "not" always win in a head-to-head matchup. for instance, I did not think Notre Dame was better than Sikeston the year N.D. won on a buzzer-beater; nor, did I think Sikeston was proven the better team when they defeated SCC at the Show-Me Center!

Well DA,

You don't want to compare games between the two teams so let's compare the TWO teams. You said SCC pretty much doesn't play the 4th quarter. So the staters play, on average 3 quarters and prolly a minute or two of the 4th?? Ok man that's great to have a team that can do that!!

Let's take Sikeston. The starters. They prolly only play 65% of the game. DA you said starters so don't take your words back! You can ask ANY opponent Sikeston played and they will tell you Sikeston subs 5 in and 5 out.

So now DA come up with another way Sikeston is so far behind SCC. You guys say Sikeston can't handle the pressure. What about you guys? You guys lost against that team out of Chicago, which Sikeston would have their handful too, and NLR. Every game you won around here we had the same scores. SCC fans stop hating on Sikeston. Look at it this way......what city in the USA can say that there was two state champions in the same zip code??? Cheer for your other teams instead of TRYING to give facts that cannot b backed up.

Actually what I said was the "MAIN" players only play about 3 quarters for SCC,and they only have aprox.8 MAIN players, where as Sikeston has aprox. 10 main players... the only thing I said about starters,was that Kennett kept their starters in after SCC took their "MAIN"players out.I wish you would pay attention so I wouldn't have to keep explaining this to you dog2167.. now read carefully..SCC#1 SCC#1 SCC#1 Everyone in SEMO knows this but you guys LOL LOL!!!!! Dribble, who do you see winning state in Class 4? And if they switched schedules with Sikeston, would it make a difference? I'll go ahead and answer the second question for you. No it would not. The schedule argument is the biggest joke I've ever heard. It works in some cases like Arcadia Valley last year, but Sikeston has played consistently good competition. So they haven't played a Chaminade or a Simeon, so what? I also find it funny that you knock them for BEATING Notre Dame. It was an 18 point lead when the starters came out. I've never heard of a team not being successful when winning by double digits.

Now to your rants. I would say Cape is better than SCC and would probably have no problem keeping the other guys on your team under 20 points total. Let Otto get his 35 or 40 and then Cape only needs 61 points to win and I for one think they could.

Sikeston over SCC by 20+ and I have no doubt about it...

We agree SCC is a great CLASS 1 team and will win the State Title again. We disagree on the fact the Sikeston is the top team in Class 4. I believe and you don't. Your the only person truely whinning!

How many times have you seen Sikeston play this season. Since SCC games and Sikeston games are usually on the same night I am betting NOT MUCH?

Like you I don't have to come up with any memory loss... I know we lost to SCC last season. When Will Holifield went down they fell apart. The year before I will refresh your memory. We won!

Maplewood did not beat Soldan. Soldan beat Maplewood 70-53 on MLK day. Sikeston would have turboclocked Maplewood. It will be a good game between Sikeston and Soldan if they meet. Get your facts straight DA.
