Rachel Crader is the editor of semoball.com. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in May of 2009 before spending the summer covering the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.

Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.

Semoball Football Five: A consensus No. 1

After five weeks, we finally have a consensus No. 1 football team for southeast Missouri. The Sikeston Bulldogs got all five first-place votes this week, taking the final top vote away from Cape Central.

The overall order of the poll is unchanged with Sikeston being followed by Caruthersville, Cape Central, Dexter and Hayti.

How the rankings are determined:

The sports staff at each of the newspapers that contribute to semoball are given a vote -- that includes the Daily American Republic (Poplar Bluff), Daily Dunklin Democrat (Kennett), Dexter Daily Statesman, Sikeston Standard Democrat and Southeast Missourian (Cape Girardeau). Each staff is free to determine how they want to complete its ballot, but there are 12 total people that cover sports for those papers all across the semoball coverage area.

Brian Rosener of the Daily American Republic tallies to the votes. A first-place vote is worth five points, a second-place vote is worth four points and so on.

The voters finally found the #1 team in the area. It only took five weeks to figure it out. I still say that Dexter would beat Cape but I guess the Week 7 matchups of Caruthersville-Dexter and Cape-Poplar Bluff decide that. After seeing Bluff play Sikeston, I actually think they could be deserving of the #5 spot if they had a better record. However, and I know differences in classes is the reason for this, I think they would also be 4-1 if they played Hayti's schedule. The Mules are underrated and I think could surprise Cape next week.

i agree that the mules are much improved but they are really banged up right now and have lost a couple of starters for the season it would appear. top 5 looks pretty good to me. i'm still not sold on cape. they've had a pretty easy road to their 4-0 record but things will sort themselves out in the next few weeks. it's a poll and it's fun for fan debate but beyond that, it doesn't mean much at all.

After watching Dexter play... I hate to say it but I agree with sideline. Dexter would probably be central if they played.
