Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
Live coverage of Oran's Class 1 title game
I have made a very difficult decision not to provide Cover It Live for the Class 1 championship game between Oran and Santa Fe.
There are several reasons for this, but the one that matters most is that I do not believe that I can provide the postgame coverage I hope to today while sitting where I have to sit to do Cover It Live.
However, I WILL BE PROVIDING live updates throughout the game on my Twitter page. You DO NOT need to have a Twitter account or understand how to use Twitter to follow the updates. Simply click right here and you will be taken to a page where you can read all of my updates.
I apologize for not following through on having Cover It Live today, and it pains me to not have it, but it's important to me to be able to provide the best coverage of this game that I can.
From last night:
The following are some random, disjointed thoughts that have been floating around in my head this evening.
1. Tomorrow's Class 1 state championship is a game that's hard to overhype. Mitch Wood is going to be remembered as a great baseball coach for a long, long time no matter what, but if he and his team cap his career, with all it's final four history, off with a first state title, he may never be forgotten.
2. So Oran junior Seth Ressel has hit a game-winning shot to send the basketball team to the final four, thrown a two-hitter in a state sectional and pitched him team to the state championship game with a five hitter this year (among other things). Good luck living up to that, Seth's future children. (Heck, good luck coming back for an encore in your senior year, Seth.)
3. I thought Wood might be in "soak it all in" mode at this final four, but he was still his typical after-game focused and feisty self after Tuesday's win. Granted, he wanted the team to get moving to go eat dinner so it could come back to watch the other state semifinal and I was taking a longggg time to interview players. I loved that he said he would "stay all night" after Wednesday's game. I won't test him on that, but I'
4. Kody Moore getting the start for Oran in his final high school game is about as perfect as Wood playing for a state title in his last game. Moore and catcher Alex Heuring have been the backbone of the team. It's fitting they'll get a chance to work together Wednesday.
5. I'm out of random thoughts. I seemed like I had more when I sat down to write this. It shouldn't (and probably doesn't) matter to any of you, but games like Wednesday are the best thing about reporting. I can't wait to tell the story, whatever it is. Game starts at 1 p.m.
