Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
First Semoball Awards finalists announced Sunday!
The first-ever group of Semoball Awards finalists will be announced Sunday. No one other than the selection committee knows who the finalists are at this point, making the announcement a little more fun.
The finalists will be featured in the Southeast Missourian, the Sikeston Standard-Democrat, The Daily Statesman in Dexter, the Daily Dunklin Democrat in Kennett and the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff as well as on semoball.com/awards of course. The football offense finalists will be live at this link at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
I'll be posting another story/summary tomorrow about what the awards are all about in case you missed it the first time around, but the website has pretty much all of the info you need.
Here's the schedule for the first group of finalists' announcements:
Sunday -- Football offense
Thursday -- Football defense
Jan. 26 -- Boys swimming and diving
Jan. 30 -- Boys soccer
Feb. 2 -- Girls tennis
Feb. 6 -- Volleyball
Feb. 9 -- Girls cross country
Feb. 13 -- Boys cross country
Since MSHSAA expanded the softball playoffs to include a spring season, we will announce the softball team in the spring rather than the fall. Fall players will of course be eligible.
