Highlights from Rachel's days in college include having a class down the hall from Chase Daniel and having NCAA wrestling champion Ben Askren hold the door open for her at Brady Commons, Mizzou's student center. She spent time covering Mizzou basketball, softball and baseball while working for the Columbia Missourian and is excited to return home to Southeast Missouri to cover local sports for semoball.com.
Rachel has covered three Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournaments for the Southeast Missourian and semoball.com, and she'll see you courtside again this year.
Tyler Stone to play in NBA Summer League
Former Southeast Missouri State forward Tyler Stone will get another chance to show off his skills for NBA coaches and executives.
Stone went unselected after working out for six NBA teams in the weeks before Thursday night's draft, but he later accepted an invitation from the Indiana Pacers to join their summer league team.
The NBA Summer League is mostly a chance for young players in an organization to get some work and experience in during the summer. You won't find any established superstars there, so Stone should get plenty of time to show off his game and try to earn a contract.
Stone will report to the Pacers on Monday, according to a press release from the university. His summer league games -- part of the Southwest Airlines Orlando Pro Summer League -- will take place July 5-11 at the Orlando Magic's practice facility at the Amway Center.
Ten NBA teams will participate and play five games during the week. Just in case anyone is thinking of heading down to Florida to support Stone, scratch your plans. The games are not open to the public. Only media and NBA officials will be allowed to watch.
The games will be shown on NBA TV, though, so you can watch Stone from the comfort of your couch.
