The Leopold Lady Wildcats volleyball season came to a close Saturday in the sectional game against Lesterville at Bell City. I would like to congratulate the Wildcats on yet another successful season of volleyball. With a final record of 25-4, the Lady Wildcats did an exceptional job on the court this year.
They started off the season by winning first place in the Woodland Tournament, with Mackenzie Beel, Abby Landewee, Kirsten Thele and Lauren Seiler making the all tournament team. They did very well in the Semo Classic, and put up a good fight against state ranked power house Scott City. Both the JV and the varsity won first place in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament. The varsity won the class 1 district 3 championship at Advance, with Mackenzie Beel making all district 2nd team, and Kirsten Thele, Lauren Seiler and Abby Landewee making the all district 1st team. The team had a spot in the "pre-season" state rankings that came out as the season opened, and continued to hold a spot until the end of the season. Their 4 losses for the year were to Notre Dame twice, (once in the SEMO Classic, once regular season)Scott City and Lesterville, all state ranked teams themselves.
These are just a few highlighted accomplishments, there are many accomplishments the Lady Wildcats have made that never gets mentioned. High school sports are about SO much more than a final game record. The volleyball team and spirit leaders conducted themselves in a manner that brought dignity and pride to their school, their community and their families. They set a very good example for the underclassmen on sportsmanship, working as a team and being good students. One thing that always impresses me each season is the number of Leopold Lady Wildcats who make the All Tournament Academic Team at the Woodland Tournament. And as if they are not busy enough with sports and school, they are also active in their church, outside activities and family life.
At Leopold, volleyball is a tradition. My "after school girl" Grace, who's in the third grade, already talks about the future and playing volleyball with her classmates. This being said, this years Lady Wildcats, in my opinion, have set a very good example for the younger ones. Someone for future Leopold volleyball players to look up to, on the court and off.

Woodland Tourament Action Final Game One Leopold over Greenville First seeded Leopold came out looking sharp, and stayed that way. Highlights of the 2 matches were Elizabeth Eftinks "strong-arm" serves, 14 in the first set, and I believe 9 in the second set. She didn't loose momentum and that's alot of serves. Greenville had trouble getting under them. Add some well placed kills by Kristen Thele and Abby Landewee and it was game, set and match...

High School Volleyball Season is Comin' and we're EXCITED!! Most schools here in Bollinger County opened their doors this past week for another round of Readn' Rightn' and Rithmatic for the "kid krowd". This occasion does not bring much enthusiasm from the children believe me! I think I'm the only one who's excited about school starting. For, when August rolls around and school starts, that means one thing to us, the start of the Leopold Wildcats ball season...

Marcia, and her husband Tony, are avid Leopold Wildcat fans. Win, lose or draw, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, they're in the stands, cheering for the mighty Blue and White.
Living in southern Bollinger County, they also enjoy watching the Zalma Bulldogs. The only thing that takes them away from local school sports is farming. That, thank heavens, usually starts about the time the school year is ending in the spring, so there is little conflict. They live in the Glennon community, with their dog Jay Jay, and their cat Miss Addie Lee. Hot topics One Last Volleyball Blog(7 ~ 2:11 PM, Dec 17)
