The Leopold Lady Wildcats volleyball season came to a close Saturday in the sectional game against Lesterville at Bell City. I would like to congratulate the Wildcats on yet another successful season of volleyball. With a final record of 25-4, the Lady Wildcats did an exceptional job on the court this year.

They started off the season by winning first place in the Woodland Tournament, with Mackenzie Beel, Abby Landewee, Kirsten Thele and Lauren Seiler making the all tournament team. They did very well in the Semo Classic, and put up a good fight against state ranked power house Scott City. Both the JV and the varsity won first place in the Mississippi Valley Conference Tournament. The varsity won the class 1 district 3 championship at Advance, with Mackenzie Beel making all district 2nd team, and Kirsten Thele, Lauren Seiler and Abby Landewee making the all district 1st team. The team had a spot in the "pre-season" state rankings that came out as the season opened, and continued to hold a spot until the end of the season. Their 4 losses for the year were to Notre Dame twice, (once in the SEMO Classic, once regular season)Scott City and Lesterville, all state ranked teams themselves.

These are just a few highlighted accomplishments, there are many accomplishments the Lady Wildcats have made that never gets mentioned. High school sports are about SO much more than a final game record. The volleyball team and spirit leaders conducted themselves in a manner that brought dignity and pride to their school, their community and their families. They set a very good example for the underclassmen on sportsmanship, working as a team and being good students. One thing that always impresses me each season is the number of Leopold Lady Wildcats who make the All Tournament Academic Team at the Woodland Tournament. And as if they are not busy enough with sports and school, they are also active in their church, outside activities and family life.

At Leopold, volleyball is a tradition. My "after school girl" Grace, who's in the third grade, already talks about the future and playing volleyball with her classmates. This being said, this years Lady Wildcats, in my opinion, have set a very good example for the younger ones. Someone for future Leopold volleyball players to look up to, on the court and off.

One last note, best of luck to our seniors, Kirsten Thele, Lauren Seiler, Kelli Woodfin, Whitney Lukefahr, Shelby Vandeven and Elizabeth Eftink. May all your dreams come true.

Ok thanks for this. Just want to say the Leopold fans were very nice and great sports. Very nice fan base and I had several Leopold fans wish Lesterville good luck at state and told the Bearcats to win it all. Great team and Great fans.

rljohnson93, I posted a response to your other comment, did you get a chance to find it? I'll repeat it here and explain why I didn't blog about sectionals. The sectional games had good media coverage, I didn't want it to seem like I was going on and on and on..when the games were covered by professional sports writers, who by the way did a great job of covering the games. Their articles were here on semoball and in the Southeast MO'n. I will comment on a few things about Saturdays games though, they were GREAT! I was proud of the way Leopold played. Lesterville is an awesome team, I hope they can bring home first place for themselves and their dedicated fans. Bell City did an exceptionl job too, in my opnion, South Pemiscott wasn't much of a hindrance for them, but the quarterfinal game between them and Lesterville was sit on the edge of the bleachers high school volleyball.

Hey thanks farminmarsh!! Yeah the games were great I am just glad my team came out on the winning side. I will say that I wasnt excited about going all the way to Bell City to play. But after being there and talking to fans from Leopold and Bell City I am very happy about the location of sectionals. The fans from actually all four schools were really nice and very respectful. A lot of fans of losing teams are not always this gracious in defeat. Leopold, Bell City and S Pemiscott has great fans and would love to see a yearly battle with each team. I would like to see Bell City and Leopold come to Lesterville to play so we can show you how nice of host we can be. Thanks for the support and I hope we can bring back a state title for the SEMO area.

Marcia!!! Are you going to do any basketball blogs???

-- Posted by queenofsidelines on Wed, Dec 16, 2009, at 8:21 AM

queenofsidlines, I've had other fans ask me the same thing...I get can get pretty "mouthy" about the different aspects of basketball and it may be too hard for me to keep things positive. I don't want to publicly say things that are negative. I know these blogs are for fun and "your opnion" is the content matter. Example: I have a few referees that I can not stand. You can not tell me favoritism dose not exist in the referee world, it dose, I've seen it too many times. You a leopold fan, queenofsidelines? Why don't you sign up to be a blogger? I'd love to read your post. I had fun doing the volleyball blogging. Had Leopold fans and alot of people who are fans of other schools speak to me about enjoying my post. That made my day more than once.

Marcia, and her husband Tony, are avid Leopold Wildcat fans. Win, lose or draw, volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball, they're in the stands, cheering for the mighty Blue and White.

Living in southern Bollinger County, they also enjoy watching the Zalma Bulldogs. The only thing that takes them away from local school sports is farming. That, thank heavens, usually starts about the time the school year is ending in the spring, so there is little conflict. They live in the Glennon community, with their dog Jay Jay, and their cat Miss Addie Lee.
