This year's tournament will take place Sept. 7-8 at Southeast Missouri State University and Notre Dame Regional High School. Both are located in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
This season 48 teams will compete in 16 three-team pools on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Bracket-play is slated for Saturday afternoon.
Scott City is the two-time defending gold bracket champion. Scott City beat Notre Dame in three sets in the 2010 gold bracket championship and Eminence in three sets in the 2011 gold bracket championship.
Here are my annual predictions regarding the four teams I feel are most likely to advance to the final four in the gold bracket:
1. Dexter - One of the most improved volleyball teams in southeast Missouri is off to a 6-2 start under veteran legendary coach Carmen Morgan who has come out of retirement to coach the Bearcats in 2012. Morgan coached Clearwater to four state titles in the 1980s and 1990s. Dexter's only losses this season are to defending Class 2 state champion St. Pius X and traditional Class 3 talent Perryville. Dexter has two-set wins against Kennett, Cape Central (2), Ste. Genevieve and Richland. It also has a three-set win against Jackson.
2. Park Hills Central - Off to a 2-1 start to the season. It suffered a three-set loss to traditional Class 1 leviathan Valle Catholic and beat Arcadia Valley, which cruised pasted Lesterville, in straight sets. Park Hills Central is also the only team to beat traditional Class 3 juggernaut DeSoto this season. This final four pick could face the toughest road to the final four with potential head-to-head matchups with Leopold, Bernie or Jackson in the first two rounds of play in the gold bracket. I would not be surprised to see Park Hills Central, Bernie, Leopold or Jackson come out of this part of the bracket and advance to the final four.
3. Notre Dame - Has an impressive 5-1-1 record with convincing two-set wins against Bernie, Farmington, Cape Central, Jefferson, and Ste. Genevieve. Its only loss is to Perryville. It may have to get past St. Vincent in the first round of the gold bracket to advance to the final four of the gold bracket. Notre Dame tied with St. Vincent last weekend in a pool-play match.
4. Perryville - An annual threat to win the 48-team tournament. Off to a 5-1-1 start. It has three-set wins against Dexter and Farmington and a two-set win against Notre Dame. It tied a match with St. Vincent. It finished second at last weekend's Notre Dame Volleyballfest. Its only loss is to last weekend's Notre Dame Volleyballfest champion St. Pius X.
An interesting side note. Three of these four teams are in the same Class 3 volleyball district at the end of the season.

Pool-Play (Note: teams do not play teams within their own pool during pool-play. Therefore, a team could win every game in its pool and not win its pool. That's close to what I have, but unsure about Pool K The Legend.
Pool H.....I believe Eminence will come out on top.
Pool I...Woodland
Pool K...Im taking a big guess and going with Gideon

Pool K is the only pool in the tournament I think all three teams have a legitimate shot to finish first in.
I think that your final four predictions are a little off. I think that Dexter and ND have a good shot at getting into Final Four, but you still can't count out a couple of opponents that Perryville and Central face.

I agree with you regarding the Park Hills Central prediction. That's why I said "I would not be surprised to see Park Hills Central, Bernie, Leopold or Jackson come out of this part of the bracket and advance to the final four." Before Notre Dame beat Bernie convincingly Tuesday I had Bernie coming out of this part of the bracket.
I like Perryville's chances based on the success it has had so far.
I will add Park Hills Central is the only one of my final four picks I haven't watched play this season.
Any thoughts on which team will win the gold bracket?
I too think that the Class 3 trio will be in the Final Four with the winner of N.D and P'ville coming out on top in the Championship. I think the other will be Jackson. They may be only 1-2, but their win was against P.B (strong team) and their losses to Dexter in 3 games and to St. Vincent by a total of 5 points.

Once again agree all four teams in Park Hills Central's part of bracket have more than a legitimate chance to win two games in gold bracket.
Anyone have a scouting report on Lebanon or Hazelwood West?
