The first Wednesday in February always marks National Signing Day, and today the national letters of intent came pouring in early and often for Southeast Missouri State football.

The most obvious initial observation is simply the size of the class, with 34 signees. It is also heavy on junior college transfers, many of whom have enrolled early and will participate in the spring.

There have been a lot of questions regarding Cape Girardeau Central's Kway'Chon Chisom, who had a signing ceremony today but is absent from the university's official signing list. Chisom signed a letter of intent to play football at Southeast, but still needs to fulfill some academic requirements before he can officially join the program. The Central senior expects to be on track to join the program for the 2017-18 spring semester, potentially taking part on the field for the 2018 season.

SEMO football coach Tom Matukewicz was not at liberty to talk about Chisom, per NCAA rules.

Without Chisom in the mix, the only local signing amongst the group is East Prairie's Deverence Jones.
