Central trails Webb City 27-14 at halftime of Class 4 title game
ST. LOUIS -- The Central Tigers jumped out to a 14-point lead over Webb City in the first quarter but were countered with 27 unanswered points in the second quarter and trail 27-14 at halftime of the Show-Me Bowl's Class 4 championship game Saturday at the Edward Jones Dome.
Peyton Montgomery scored on a 5-yard touchdown run on the Tigers' opening drive, which lasted 11 plays and went 58 yards. After Central's Al Young intercepted a Tyson Roderique pass, the Tigers marched down field 59 yards in eight plays, capped by a 1-yard run by Montgomery to give Central a 14-0 lead.
Webb City responded with a 52-yard drive in the second quarter, capped by a 4-yard run by Roderique at the 10:28 mark of the second quarter.
Roderique capped a 35-yard drive with a 3-yard run at the 5:27 mark of the quarter, and the Cardinals took their first lead of the game later in the quarter on a 1-yard run by Keaton Burroughs.
After Montgomery's pass was intercepted on the first play of the Tigers' ensuing drive, Kiante Hardin hauled in a 30-yard pass from Roderique to give Webb City a 27-14 lead.
Montgomery is 2 of 4 passing for 56 yards and one interception for Central. He also has six carries for 16 yards and two scores.
Braion Owens has been held to 36 yards on 12 carries in the first half, while Young received no touches in the first half.
Tyler Davison has 13 carries for 100 yards to lead Webb City's rushing attack.
The Cardinals will get the ball to begin the second half.
