Porter, Staple headline MBCA all-state teams
Scott County Central junior Jeffery Porter was named Class 2 boys basketball Player of the Year while coach Frank Staple earned Coach of the Year honors by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association, which was announced Friday.
SCC senior Javonta Daniel was also named to the Class 2 team. The Braves claimed the school's 18th state title earlier this month. It was their second Class 2 title.
Senior Caleb Ellenburg, of Bernie, also earned Class 2 all-state honors.
New Madrid County Central senior Willie Jimerson was named Class 3 Player of the Year, following the Eagles' third-place finish at state earlier this month.
Charleston senior Delfincko Bogan was also named to the Class 3 team.
Advance senior Dalton Wilson and Oran senior Jacob Priggel were awarded all-state honors in Class 1.
Notre Dame senior Quinn Poythress earned all-state honors in Class 4. Poythress was one of 10 seniors for the Bulldogs, who finished third at state.
Jackson senior Blake Reynolds was named to the Class 5 squad. Reynolds averaged more than 20 points per game to lead the Indians in scoring this season. He also won the John Gibbs Award earlier this week, given annually to the top boys player in the SEMO Conference.
On the girls' side, Saxony Lutheran juniors Raegan Wieser and Brianna Mueller each earned Class 3 all-state honors. The Crusaders lost to eventual state champion Park Hills Central in overtime of a state quarterfinal.
Twin Rivers junior Jaysea Morgan and Clearwater senior Lexi Morris were also named to the Class 3 team.
Dexter junior Melanie McKuin earned all-state honors in Class 4. The Bearcats won the Class 4 District 1 championship and were led by McKuin, who was named the SEMO Conference girls Player of the Year earlier this week.
Neelyville juniors Shelby Moon and Chelsea Petty were named to the Class 2 all-state team.
Naylor's Shayna Tharp, a senior, and Kabrien Rogers, a junior, each earned all-state honors in Class 1.
