Riedinger resigns as Kelly football coach

Kelly football coach Kenneth Riedinger resigned from his position as Kelly football coach last Thursday.

Riedinger stated the following in a Facebook post on the Kelly Hawks Football account:

"Guys, it saddens me to tell you this way, on Facebook. I prefer to look you all (my players) in the eyes and explain what happened first. I was going to tell them this Thursday at camp, but now they aren't having the church camp - my last opportunity to have them all together. So without another option, I messaged our team in messenger first. I effectively resigned from Kelly 7-2-15, last Thursday. Please respect the fact that I will not go into any details with the public. My family and I want to thank this wonderful community and most importantly my boys!!! I love you all and will miss you more than I can ever express in words!!! It has been a blessing and an honor to introduce the greatest game ever invented to you all. I wish the WARHAWKS all the success in the world!!! Give 'em hell boys and promise me this, play the game no matter what. Don't get caught up in any of the garbage; just promise me you will play!!!

Riedinger coached the Hawks in their inaugural varsity football season last year. He led them to a 4-6 finish.

I'm sorry to hear that about Kelly. Hopefully they can find someone to replace Coach Red

As the father of a Kelly WarHawk, this saddens me and my family. Coach Red brought a sense of pride and community to Benton. My wife and I will be forever grateful to him for all he has taught Jacob.

If Coach Red was already having problems with administration, I can't see the Kelly program lasting very long (in my opinion).

The ones that suffer our the HS players. I hope this doesn't destroy their program. Maybe they can find a good retired coach if they don't promote within. It's probably to late in the summer to find a teacher/ head football coach. I wish them well

It saddens me when ever the administration meddles in an athletic program enough to drive a coach away. When a coach is "run off" as in this case. It speaks volumes to the community and surrounding athletic programs. Good Luck replacing Coach Red.

Lance Powers has been named Kelly High School head football coach. Powers was an asst. coach for the Hawks previously.

The Kelly admin has run off several good teachers in the recent past also. Wonder what the hecks going on?
