Pool play: Southeast's facility nearly ready

The problems for Central Municipal Pool have been chronicled this fall in the Southeast Missourian and on Peg McNichol's blog, but another aquatics facility will be opening in Southeast Missouri soon.
The Southeast Missouri State Student Aquatics Center should be open by mid-December, according to this item on the university Web site. The complex will boast features of a recreational facility with a leisure pool, a rock-climbing wall with waterfalls (Didn't Mom used to warn us to be careful about this sort of thing?), a zip line and a 12-person spa. Sounds like fun, but it won't be able to fill in as a substitute for Central Municipal Pool for competitive meets, though it might be able to work as a practice facility. The center's competitive swimming pool will have six lanes -- swimming meets usually have eight available -- covering the 25-yard length of the pool. According to a photo caption on the competitive pool: "The Southeast Aquatic League has already contracted to use the facility upon opening." The release said the facility would be used for intramural swimming meets, water polo and more. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

A waterfall? Does this officially count as another fountain? I'm sure it will look nice.
OHHH so that is why they raised my tuition. Oh by the way the buildings we actually learn in are falling down retards.
ANOTHER FOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
GOOD ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
If you're going to spend that much money for a facility why not add another two lanes? Let me think of about 5 academic buildings that need replaced or completely gutted........... Rhodes, McGill, Johnson, Parker, Grauel............. hmmmmm.......... but we need a pool 2 lanes short of competition stsndards..... that pretty much sums up SEMO's administration
Not that they would do it, but the possibility of competitve NCAA swim teams is out of the question by a few lanes. It is really even too small for the Gators to host meets at, which would be a good recruiting tool for the university with many regional swim teams (St. Louis, Carbondale, Paducah, etc) comeing to Cape a few times a year. Southeast Acquatic League is a much smaller club and doesn't host their own meets.
And being a six lane 25 yd. pool it is designed for fitness/water sports. Probably could have been built bigger for the price of the waterfalls.
Whitey, The SEALS are bigger than the Gators for year round swimming. They are also the ELITE team in the area. Ask any of the St. Louis coaches who the best in Southeast Missouri is and all of them will agree that the SEALS are far superior in every way. :)
Heisman, who are you kidding? The Gators have been around since the late 60s and have produced several NCAA Div. 1 swimmers as well as numerous Missouri state HS champions and finalists.
In contrast, the SEALS have been around since perhaps 2001 and haven't produced jack squat. What, exactly, does "elite" and "the best in Southeast Missouri" mean to you?
