Take on Toby Football Contest: Year 2Posted Thursday, August 28, 2008, at 2:56 PM
Sorry for the late start-up, but I figured we should have another round of making football picks for this season.
We'll find some prizes in the Semoball.com closet down the road, but here's a refresher on how we awarded T-shirts to last year's winners:
- Most wins.
- Most points based on ½-point awarded each week for tying me, 1 point awarded each week for beating me and another point for those who topped the standings that week. (Making it possible for a range of 0 to 2 points to be awarded to each contestant each week.)
I am not predicting very good things from my first week of predicting. There's not enough information on where some of these teams are headed yet; and I'm willing to go with the upset in a couple instances.
Dexter gave Ste. Genevieve quite a battle last year, and the Bearcats were pretty young at this point last year. Despite Ste. Genevieve's status as the No. 4 team in the state's preseason poll, I'll take the visiting Bearcats.
And while Missouri should be formidable, Ron Zook has been stockpiling the talent at Illinois and unleashed it on Ohio State last year. The Illini may not have known how good they were last year at this time, but they do now. Should be a great battle Saturday at The Edward Jones Dome. Maybe we can get a rematch in the BCS title game.
Make your picks in the comments section below, and we'll keep track through the season.
(I will give everyone credit this week for picking SEMO if you enter after kickoff. But if you're picking Southwest Baptist, say so now.)

Forgot one.....I'll take Mizzou over Illinois.
The Bean respects the Big Tobe, excepting his picks of Malden, Perryville, and ill in noise; Me an Coby are a pickin' the Rams at home, but gotta go against the ex-Ram in Perryville for now. I personally am expecting great things from Mizzou as I think they deserved better last year. Yep, the Tigers over them ill in eyes... Bring it on!
