Take on Toby Week 5 (Can it get an easier than last week?)

The fourth week of the Take on Toby football prognosticating challenge was an easy one with six perfect scores in addition to mine.

A couple of games tripped up the record 19 prognosticators:

-- Five picked St. Pius to upend Chaffee.

-- Four went with East Prairie to upset Kennett, which almost happened. The Eagles, trailing 41-35, had two possessions in Kennett territory in the final eight minutes, including the game-ended drive that stalled inside Kennett's 20-yard line.

-- Surprisingly, five people went with Sikeston over SEMO North defending champion Jackson. Would 25 percent of any group of people outside of Sikeston made that pick at the beginning of the season? I heard it was a competitive game, but Jackson prevailed. (The Indians now get a four-game gauntlet of Hazelwood Central, Farmington, Poplar Bluff and Eureka).

-- One took a chance on Perryville, which played within three points of Park Hills Central.

-- One also selected Southeast Missouri State to beat Missouri State.

Not much movement in the standings. Here they are through Week 4:

Here are the games for Week 5:

Chaffee at Scott City

Fredericktown at East Prairie

Charleston at Hayti

Dexter at Malden

Kennett at Portageville

Caruthersville at New Madrid County Central

Cape Central at Sikeston

Hazelwood Central at Jackson

North County at Poplar Bluff

Festus St. Pius at St. Vincent

Perryville at Potosi

Saturday: SEMO at Indiana State.

You can make your selections here or in my blog later this week with my picks. I have some studying to do to make informed selections on some of these tests: SEMO, Hazelwood Central-Jackson, North County-Bluff. East Prairie may have a chance to test another good Class 3 team this week and...

... Chaffee at Scott City ought to be a tight battle after last year's win by Chaffee. It's Scott City's homecoming, and the Rams aren't too happy about losing to Chaffee last year for the first time since 1985.

Who's going to win that one? (You can vote in the Semoball poll.)

Did I omit some along the way?

Toby Carrig's response:
You are correct. In fact, I will post new standings with my picks later today because my spreadsheet formula was adding 7 losses to everyone's record instead of the number of incorrect picks from Week 4. Sorry about that.

My inability to make a decision has put me an' Coby in a lurch. I missed one week, and I realize that I am too far behind ole jean_valjean to ever catch up. I am hereby conceding this year's contest. Oh, by the way, ole jean sounds like someone from up north...

Toby Carrig's response:
No, Missouri State did look susceptible. And, if not for that 21-0 halftime deficit, who knows? Southeast did score 28 points in the second half (although Missouri State at times played like it knew the clock was on its side).

Looks like you're back on the bandwagon this week, though.
