Live from Park Hills: Delta 43, Tuscumbia 40

Posted Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at 9:02 PM

Delta, the Class 1 runner-up last year, trails Tuscumbia 33-31 after three quarters in Park Hills.

The Bobcats were down four, 27-23, at halftime but limited Tuscumbia to one basket over the first 5 1/2 minutes of the third quarter.

Delta now 34-33 with 5:57 to play, and Tuscumbia has called timeout after turning the ball over.

I agree this is one of the funniest comments ever on our blogs at the discussion on Marty Mishow's blog about the next SEMO men's basketball coach:

Hypothetically, if those were the final 2, I would want Soderberg.

Hypothetically, if those were the final two, I want Michael Waddell as our AD.

Delta has scored on back-to-back putback baskets by Taylor Smith and Jodi Menz for a 38-35 lead with 3 minutes to go.

Tierney Webb, who has big in the first half but silent in the second, scored on the baseline to make it 38-37 Delta.

Delta stalled a bit, had an open shot for Menz, but it missed.

Tuscumbia has come up empty with 1:41 to go.

Delta took control 42-38 with :50 to go on a basket by Menz, but Tuscumbia closed within two and has the ball with 11 seconds to play.

It has been a long final minute in a game with plenty of held ball calls.

:09.8 to play, Tuscumbia ball.

Tuscumbia's shot hits the high side of the backboard.

FINAL: DELTA 43, Tuscumbia 40.

Great defensive second half for Delta.
