Delta 49, Meadville 39, final.
Delta will be playing for the Class 1 title Friday with a semifinal victory here today over previously undefeated Meadville. I will be back blogging at 12:20 p.m. or a little before to give you live updates of what should be an action-filled game between Scott County and Jefferson. See you all again soon.
Delta 41, Meadville 34 , 4:47 left in first quarter
Delta still has a seven-point lead with a little more than half a quarter to play.
Delta 37, Meadville 30, end of the third quarter
Delta clings to a seven-point lead as it heads into the fourth quarter. Kaci Sargent has been pretty much Meadville's whole offense with 12 more in the third quarter. Delta must stop her in the fourth to win.
Delta 28, Meadville 17 halftime
The Bobcats are leading by 11 points at halftime over a Meadville team that is is undefeated this season at 29-0. Sarah Keys leads Delta with 11 points and Taylor Smith has added nine points. Meadville's Kaci Sargent leads her team, scoring 11 of its 17 points. Only two other players have scored for the Eagles. So if Delta can shut down Sargent in the second, it had a pretty good chance of winning.
Delta 14, Meadville 8, end of first quarter.
Well, I am here at Mizzou Arena covering Delta vs. Meadville at 9 a.m. Delta leads after one. I have to say I have experienced some strange things as a sports writer, such as writing game stories in my car at 11 p.m. at night on side of road and having the police stop to see what I was doing and then running my plates. However, a 9 a.m. game is a first. I think I'll be a member of an exclusive club of only one percent of all sports reporters to cover a game this early in the morning. Good Luck to all area teams at State this weekend.
You have got to be kidding! Those girls work their butts off their whole career and you are complaining about having to be there to watch a game that early in the morning. Glad to see you are making a story about successful girls basketball all about you.
I can't imagine how exciting this game must have been. Jefferson must be awesome. Keep your heads up SCC. Come back and win tomorrow..
A common complaint about MSHSAA's schedule for years. Settle down Expect2win, I am sure you will read some great stories on Delta's successful season win or lose in the Finals.
Congrats to Coach White and the entire Delta community! Boy, Gillespie and Niemczyck could solve SEMO's backcourt problems for the next four years.
As a Delta Alumni....I would like to take this opportunity to say: WAY 2 GO BOBCATS WAY 2 GO!!!!! This is awesome!!! BEST OF LUCK WISHES FOR A STATE TITLE!!!
Expect2win,
It's also about the teams. Teams that are used to playing all of their games at 7PM or so can be thrown off their game by such an odd schedule. It's just the way things work out with that many games to play this week, but imagine the Cardinals with a 9AM start.
