The Scott City football team will be back in action against the seventh ranked team in Class 1 Hayti on Friday after having a bye in Week 6.

The Rams (2-3) were routed 28-6 by rival Chaffee on the road two weeks ago.

Scott City coach Ronnie Jones said his team played well at times despite its 22-point loss to the Red Devils.

One positive that he saw was the run game.

The Rams dashed for 268 yards, including 150 in the first half.

Seven turnovers, however, hurt the Rams from continuing many of their drives.

"We started to do some things with our run and change up our blocking schemes and take advantage of what we were seeing," Jones said.

"I think the thing we have to do the most is that we need to control our turnovers," Jones said. "But we also have to execute as far as sustaining our blocks because these guys [the Hayti defense] with their type of speed if they make a mistake they have the speed to recover. A lot of times they can still make the play and that concerns me a lot. We have to execute at the point of attack and sustain our blocks for our backs to have an opportunity. If that does not occur it's going to be a long night for us."

Hayti has a spread offense and runs the ball often. Tailback Keenan Williams entered Week 6 with 84 carries for 496 yards.

"Last year he was coming into his own late in the year," Jones said of Williams. "I know at the beginning of the year they didn't utilize him as much and I think because they were throwing the ball a lot early. But I went down and I watched them play in the playoff game. Someone who was standing there beside me said, 'Before it is all over that kid is going to be a good back.' ... Any time he touches the ball he can go the distance. We know that.

"We've seen another back like that at East Prairie in the Williams kid [M.C. Williams] and we didn't fare very well. Our kids understand that if we make mistakes, it's going to cost us."

Jones said M.C. Williams and Keenan Williams have different running styles as Hayti and East Prairie run different offenses.

"Both of them are very talented running backs," Jones said. "Anyone who didn't fall off of Mars knows that. The thing about it is that they have a different style of running and their offenses are totally different. The deal with East Prairie is that they are more of a power-type structure in which they demand more out of their offensive linemen. They block at the point of attack and M.C. is very good at finding that crease and making something big out of it.

"Against, Hayti, you've got people spread out all over the field. And the natural holes are created by their formation. So if one or two kids break down, it can cost you in a hurry."

Jones said his team practiced every day during the bye week with the exception of

Monday since a junior varsity game took place that day.

"We've tried to do the things that will make us a better football team," Jones said. "We're less than 25 days from the regular season being over. It's going to pass pretty quickly. If we're going to make a run at this thing it's time to get started, I guess."
