Game over. Notre Dame will play in tomorrow's championship. Pitcehr Colton Young got the first two batters to fly out to right field. The third hitter walked. The next batter grounded to third. Ryan Bass bobbled but stayed with the ball, picked it up and fired to first for the final out.
Notre Dame 5, Harrisonville 1 after six and a half innings Notre Dame added an insurance as Pewitt tripled to start the inning and Greer doubled him home. Pitcher Colton Young is out on the mound warming for the seventh.
Notre Dame 4, Harrisonville 1 after six innings Harrisonville cut Notre Dame's lead to 4-1 but it could have been much more. Pitcher Colton Young truly had to battle to escape a major jam. A single and double off Young with no outs cut Harrisonville's deficit to 4-1. The next hitter flied out to right, moving the runner up to third. Young walked the next two batters to load the bases with one out. Young struck out the next two batters to escape with the lead. Notre Dame is three outs away from earning a spot in tomorrow's championship game.
Notre Dame 4, Harrisonville 0 after five and a half innings The Notre Dame bats were quiet in the sixth. Tomaszewski grounded out to start the inning. Wesley Glaus popped to the catcher. Ryan Bass drew a two-out walk, but Young struck out to end frame, leaving Bass on base. It was the first inning this game that Notre Dame failed to get a hit. As expected, Young is back out on the mound to start the bottom of the sixth.
Notre Dame 4, Harrisonville 0 after five innings Colton Young just threw one of his best innings this game. He got the first hitter to ground out to him. He struck out the next two hitters. Young and Notre Dame now are six outs away from qualifying for the title game. Young needed an easy fifth inning after running into jams in the third and fourth innings.
Notre Dame 4, Harrisonville 0 after four and a half innings Austin Greer broke the Notre Dame single season school hit record when he stroked a double to left field to start the fifth inning. It was Greer's 45 hit of the year. Greer then got to third on an errant throw made by the left fielder. He scored when Dylan Drury singled. Notre Dame lead 4-0 after four innings and is nine outs away from earning a trip to the championship game.
Notre Dame 3, Harrisonville 0 after four innings As the band Aerosmith would say, Colton Young is living on the edge. Young again battled out of a jam. The first two hitters of the bottom of the fourth reached off him when they stroked singles to left field. But Young retired the next two hitters on pop outs in the infield. He then got the next hitter to strike out swinging. ND still leads 3-0. Young now is nine outs away from leading his team into tomorrow's Class 3 championship. It would be the second team in Southeast Missouri today to advance to a championship game as St. Vincent girls soccer posted a 4-1 win to qualfiy for tomorrow's title game in Class 1.
Notre Dame 3, Harrisonville 0 after three and a half innings. Notre Dame squandered a chance to score. Wesley Glaus doubled to left field to start the inning. But he was picked off in between second and third base by the catcher who held the ball and then ran all the way between third and second to tag out Glaus. It looked as strange as it just sounded. I don't think I've ever seen a catcher go that far to tag out a runner. But hey, he got the out. A hard line out to third and pop up to short ended the inning. Notre Dame 3, Harrisonville 0 after three innings Colton Young got into a little trouble but battled his way out of it without allowing a run. Young got the No. 8 hitter to fly out to center to start the inning. But the next two hitters singled off him to put runners on first and second with one out. The No. 2 hitter grounded softly to shortstop Jimmy Obermark who made a nice play and fired to first for the out. Young then got the No. 3 hitter to fly out to right field to strand both runners in scoring position.
Notre Dame 3, Harrisonville 0 after two and a half innings Austin Greer started the top of the third off by singling up the middle. The hit marked his 44th of the year and tied the single-season school record for hits, which was set by his uncle. Greer wasn't on base very long. He scored when the next hitter Dylan Drury smashed a triple to right field. Drury scored when Jeremy Essner grounded out to first base and the ball was bobbled. The two runs increased the Notre Dame lead to 3-0.
Notre Dame 1, Harrisonville 0 after two innings 1,2,3. Colton Young breezed through the bottom of the second inning by striking out the side in order. Harrisonville's Nos. 5 through 7 hitters all went down swinging. Notre Dame leads by a run after two.

Ryan Bass grounded out to shortstop. But Colton Young, who had struck out looking in his first at bat, stroked a double to left field to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0.
Notre Dame 0, Harrisonville 0 -- after one inning Notre Dame ace Colton Young looked strong in the first inning. Young struck out the leadoff hitter swinging. He retired the second hitter to ground out to shortstop. The No. 3 hitter lined a hit off Young for an infield single. The cleanup hitter popped to shallow left field for the third and final out.
Notre Dame 0, Harrisonville 0 -- mid first inning Notre Dame left the bases loaded in their first at bat. Harrisonville pitcher Landon Teal struck out Colton Young looking to start the game. Then, No. 2 hitter Jake Pewitt hammered a double in left-center, Austin Greer reached on an error by the shortstop and cleanup hitter Dylan Drury walked to load the bases. Mark Hagedorn stepped to the dish with the bases full and grounded to third. The force was made at home for the second out. Jeremy Essner then grounded out to second to end the inning.
Starting lineups are being announced right now. The game should get underway shortly. The winner plays in tomorrow's title game. Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 in Class 3. Colton Young will make the start on the mound. |
