Notre Dame 18, Carl Junction 4 after six and a half innings

Catcher Mark Hagedorn is having a huge day at the plate.

He blasted a two-run home run, which started a Notre Dame 12-run rally.

Dylan Drury now takes the mound with just three outs to go in the Class 3 championship game with a 14-run lead instead of a two-run lead.

Cotlon Young added an RBI single. Jake Pewitt, Trenton St. Cin and Aaron Tomaszewski all added two-run singles.

Wesley Glaus capped the hitting storm off with a three-run home run for Gluas. It was Glaus' second homer of the game.

Notre Dame now leads 18-4.

Notre Dame 6, Carl Junction 4 after six innings.

Wow.

That's pretty much the only word I can use to describe the mess Dylan Drury just pitched himself out of in the sixth inning.

The No. 9 hitter for Carl Junction started off with a leadoff single. The next hitter then bounced a ball to shortstop Colton Young who fielded but threw in the dirt and late to second base, trying to get the force out. Drury then struck out the next batter on a pitch that painted the outside corner for a called third strike. The runners both moved into scoring position on a double steal. Drury struck out the No. 3 hitter swinging and retired the cleanup hitter on a ground out to second base.

Drury and Notre Dame are six outs away from winning the Class 3 state title.

Notre Dame 6, Carl Junction 4 after five and a half innings

Jake Hale just pitched his first one, two, three innng for Carl Junction.

He struck out Colton Young, retired Jake Pewitt on a ground out to second base and got Austin Greer to fly out to center field.

Notre Dame is six outs away from winning the Class 3 state baseball title. But Carl Junction just put more pressure on Notre Dame scoring two runs to cut the deficit to two.

The first Carl Junction hitter grounded out to third base. But a walk and ground-rule double put two runners in scoring position with two outs. Carl Junction No. 7 hitter stroked a double into left-center that scored both runs and cut the deficit to 6-4.

Notre Dame 6, Carl Junction 2 after four and a half innings

Trenton St. Cin finally got his first at bat in the final four and took advantage of it. St. Cin ripped a single into left field to start the inning. He then moved to second when the next hitter Mark Hagedorn ripped a single into left field. Both runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball. And St. Cin scored the sxith run when he sprinted home on a wild pitch. Hagedorn, however, was unable to score as a pop out, strikeout and ground out kept him at third base.

Notre Dame 5, Carl Junction 2 after four innings

Carl Junction put its first two batters on base with a single and walk.

But then Carl Junction ran itself into some trouble.

The next batter struck out. The ball was dropped. The runners ran anyway even though they didn't have to because the hitter as automatically out and Hagedorn threw down to third base and ended up getting a 2-5-4 double play. The score remained 5-2 as Drury retired the final batter of the frame.

Notre Dame 5, Carl Junction 2 after thee and a half innings

Notre Dame No. 8 hitter Wesley Glaus got a second life and took advantage of it big time. He smashed a three-run homer right after a foul ball he weakly hit was dropped.

Here is how it all went down:

Notre Dame catcher Mark Hagedorn smashed a double that hit off the base of the left field wall to start the inning. Aaron Tomaszewski singled to center field to put runners at the corners with no outs. Glaus was the next batter. Glaus popped to the third baseman who dropped the ball in foul ground. He then drilled a three-run homer to left field, where the wind is blowing out. Head coach Jeff Graviett, who was coaching at third base leaped up in the air, as he saw the ball fly over the left fielder's head for Glaus' second home run of the season. Glaus' only other home run this year came in a regular-season win over Jackson.

Notre Dame 2, Carl Junction 2 after three innings

Pitcher Dylan Drury battled out of a jam to jeep the game tied through three inning.

Drury struck out the lead batter. The next hitter singled sharply up the middle. Drury came back to strke the next batter but then walked the No. 6 hitter to put runners at first and second with two outs. Drury threw a 1-2 pitch that the whole ND team thought was strike three as the defense started running off the field. But it was called a ball. On the next pitch, Drury struck out the hitter swinging on a curveball that sliced inside. Drury has been getting the outside corner consistently.

Jake Pewitt led off by grouding out to second. Austin Greer then stroked a single to right field. Greer stole second. The throw went into center, allowing Greer to advance to third.

Dylan Drury, the cleanup hitter, stepped to the plate and popped to shortstop.

Pitcher Jake Hale then struck out Jeremy Essner to end the threat.

Notre Dame 2, Carl Junction 2 after two innings

Notre Dame pitcher Dylan Drury needed an easy second inning after facing eight batters in a tough first. Drury did get his easy frame.

He retired the first batter on a ground out to second base. He then struck out the next two hitters to keep the score 2-2.

Notre Dame tied it up but the Bulldogs could have probably taken the lead.

Jeremy Essner struck out to begin the inning. But Mark Hagedorn walked and Aaron Tomaszewski dropped a soft single into shallow right field. No. 8 hitter Wesley Glaus then stroked a RBI double into the gap in left-center field. Both runners scored but Glaus was thrown out by a mile at third base. Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett has told me several times he prefers aggressive base running but this time it cost Notre Dame. That's because the next hitter Ryan Bass singled down the left field line. That hit would have probably scored Glaus from second. Colton Young popped out to end the inning.

Carl Junction 2, Notre Dame 0 after one inning

Carl Junction jumped out to an early lead against Notre Dame pitcher Dylan Drury.

Carl Junction put its leadoff batter on base when third baseman Ryan Bass made an error. A passed ball moved the runner to second base with no outs. But Drury battled back to strike out the Nos. 2 and 3 hitters using a strong curveball. He walked the cleanup hitter and then the No. 5 hitter smashed a ground rule double over the fence in left to put the home team ahead 1-0. Drury walked the next hitter on five pitches to load the bases.

Graviett came out to talk with Drury but right after the discussion Carl Junction's No. 7 hitter smashed a single to left field to give his team a 2-0 lead.

That was all as Drury got the next hitter to fly out to right field.

Notre Dame threatened in the top of the first but did not score.

Colton Young led off the game with a four-pitch walk. No. 2 hitter Jake Pewitt got ahead in the count 2-1 before putting down a sacrfice bunt back to the pitcher that moved Young to second base. Austin Greer then got ahead in the count 3-1 and drove a ball all the way back to the warning track in center field, but for a long out. Cleanup hitter Dylan Drury lined out to second base on the first pitch he saw for the final out of the top of the first.
