Postseason honors for football
Posted Tuesday, December 9, at 8:33 PM
The all-state football teams are out this week with the coaches association squad at www.mosports.com, and the team selected by the media released Wednesday.
The Semoball Super 25 football team should be released in the next 10 days. We are working on all the second annual Semoball fall all-region teams (for sports with 10 or more schools participating: volleyball, boys and girls cross country, softball and football) this week. And I am waiting for one coach's one set of statistics to finish out the stats for all the local schools. We will have a comprehensive list on the Web site this week.
Hooray for fall The fall sports season has begun, meaning high school and college sports are back in the spotlight. With that in mind, Semoball.com has ramped up the coverage again with new material. The high school football page is your resource all season with previews, game stories, features, rankings and more. Among the highlights of the page are links to the Sikeston Standard Democrat's package on the 100 years of Sikeston High School football, with a feature and decade-by-decade glance...
Some new video clips of note Someone asked recently in a blog response whether we had video of a Calvin Williams dunk in a SEMO men's basketball game. Thanks to the folks at Southeast Missouri State's video services department, we do. I've compiled three of Williams' recent impressive baskets into a highlight reel...
Back with words from Bluff Recently, we had lost access to the Web site of the Daily American Republic and were unable to post sports items from that corner of the Semoball.com coverage area. However, that has been remedied and some older items have been updated. Thus, you can catch up with the Three Rivers Raiders men's and women's teams...
Y'all come back now, you hear The Semoball.com Web site had very good traffic during the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament, which means a large number of people checked out the blogs and videos. And more than 200 entered our first Upickem contest. Thanks for checking things out...
Two big nights of basketball The SEMO Conference basketball tournament is the subject of the current poll. You can vote for a few more hours on which team you believe will win. (Check back Friday to vote on who you believe will win the Heisman.) The tournament will feature two fine matchups for the semifinal round tonight in Siketon with top-seeded Notre Dame playing defending Class 3 state champion Charleston, and Sikeston and Jackson clashing in the nightcap...
Transition from fall to winter The fall high school sports season is concluded, but there's certainly some good fall-related items that still will trickle onto the Semoball.com Web site. The all-region football team, chosen by sportswriters and sportscasters, was released bright and ealy Sunday morning...
DVDs available for Jackson fans The Semoball.com Web site has compiled the video clips shown here on the left side of the home page from Jackson's 21-20 victory against Eureka on Oct. 19 into a DVD that has a bigger picture in higher resolution. I haven't tried it out on the large-screen plasma, but you can relive the highlights from the Class 5 district battle between two state-ranked teams...
Video rolls again With the technical difficulties resolved, you can catch up on some of last week's high school football. Video from Cape Central's loss to Fort Zumwalt North has been added. It's mostly the highlights for Central fans, and the wonderful work of the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center gives us a great video package with the audio of KGIR-1220's Todd Bonacki...
Now that's a submitted photo After we have some technical difficulties remedied with our video upload, look for some video galleries from Cape Central's Thursday night football game against Fort Zumwalt North, the Cape Central-Jackson soccer game and St. Vincent's homecoming football win against Chaffee...
Rivalry games The 101st football meeting between Cape Central and Jackson went to the Indians. The 56-13 win provided a lot of highlight material, which was captured by the fine crew at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center. You can see six video clips in the multimedia gallery to the left side...
A special night in Chaffee Red Devils coach Charlie Vickery didn't burden his players with the 21-year losing streak in the series with Scott City, but the reaction of the community told the story after Chaffee beat Scott City 21-19 on Friday night. A large crowd with supporters from both sides filled the bleachers and lined the field...
Hayti makes an impression Hayti, state-ranked in Class 1, hammered Class 3 Kennett 34-7 on Friday night in the Battle of the Indians. Both teams entered the contest with 2-0 records. You can check out the game story from the Daily Dunklin Democrat or videos from the first half, when Hayti built a 28-7 lead; the second half; the postgame with Jerome Covington, who rushed for 113 yards; and coach David Gilmore...
SEMO football in pictures and words Southeast Missouri State's football team won its home game Saturday nght against Southwest Baptist. You can check out coverage in video, a photo gallery, the game story from the Southeast Missourian, blogs from Marty Mishow and Toby Carrig. Check back later Tuesday to see how the picks went from Week 2 of the football season and what games are ahead in Week 3, along with some video from the B.A. Promotions volleyball tournament and Tony Samuel's news conference on Monday...
Back from labor, Labor Day The big football section crush for the Southeast Missourian last week drew some resources away from Semoball.com, but we're updated with new information this week. Football and softball rankings have been updated, with a few changes in each. The Web site has its first community blogger, as Scott City senior Derek Goodin is providing reports throughout the football season. His first two entries have been entertaining reading...
Fall marks beginning of school sports A few new items on Semoball.com for the beginning of the high school and college sports seasons, and more to come. First, the Semoball.com calendar at the top of the home page has been updated to include the schedules for August and September for teams in the Southeast Missourian coverage area. We will be adding more schedules as we receive them (schedules for the Sikeston Standard Democrat coverage area will be up soon, and also updating scores...
Summer baseball winding down Baseball season for area American Legion and youth teams is winding down, and the Plaza Tire Capahas are in Wichita this week for the season-ending National Baseball Congress World Series. The Southeast Missourian is compiling features on teams -- baseball and softball -- headed to the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth World Series. ...
Money matters Even with a brief vacation, the Semoball.com staff is working on some new material this week. Content from the newspapers is being updated, including the Daily American Republic's recent profile of Shon Peck-Love, a former basketball standout at Three Rivers Community College and the University of Alabama now teaching high school basketball in his home state...
Semoball baseball stars coming today The Semoball all-region baseball team will be released on the Web site Monday. Look for the interactive feature and Toby Carrig's related Weblog this afternoon. Also, the Semoball cameras are heading to Legion baseball tonight with the Scott County American Legion team, fresh off its Paragould tournament championship, heading to Jackson...
Updates and a countdown The 15 players selected for the first Semoball.com all-region baseball team will be featured in the next week or so with a baseball card presentation for the players. We can't put an exact date on it as the production process gets the cards -- which will have pictures on the front and statistical information on the back -- ready to roll...
