Prediction on Bogan comes truePosted Thursday, August 7, 2008, at 8:36 AM
When, back in May, SEMO center Will Bogan was declared academically ineligible for next season's first semester, I wrote in a column that I had my doubts whether Bogan would ever play in another SEMO game.
I thought about that Wednesday when I was working on the story about Bogan officially no longer being a member of the SEMO men's basketball program. The Bell City product plans to play at Shawnee Community College in nearby Ullin, Ill. So it looks like Bogan's hoops career at SEMO is over after just one season, which is a shame because he showed enough promise as a freshman to make you think he could one day be a dominant OVC center. Bogan could be recruited again by SEMO while he attends Shawnee and there is always the possibility that he could rejoin the Redhawks in the future, but I don't see that happening. So it looks like my semi-prediction regarding Bogan's future at SEMO has come true. By the way, Shawnee getting Bogan is a real coup because the Saints are not exactly a junior college powerhouse. The Division II juco program went 11-19 last season. One more note: I wrote in the article about Bogan leaving that sources told me Bogan did not have his scholarship renewed by SEMO earlier this summer. Coach Scott Edgar neither would confirm nor deny that. But if it's true, I don't blame Edgar one bit. There was never any guarantee Bogan would return to SEMO anyway, and word on the street was that he would wind up at a junior college, which is what happened. Why hold out a scholarship for somebody you don't think is coming back? |
