SEMO hoops just can't catch a breakPosted Monday, August 25, 2008, at 11:38 PM
The SEMO men's basketball program just can't catch any kind of a break these days.
On the heels of another NCAA investigation, SEMO coach Scott Edgar told me Monday night that senior point guard Hank Harris suffered a torn achilles tendon while playing in a pickup game late last week. Harris will likely miss the entire season, although he could redshirt and retain a final year of eligibility. Harris was primarily Roderick Pearson's backup last season, although he made three starts while appearing in 25 games. In his first year at SEMO after transferring from junior college, Harris averaged just 2.2 points per game but had by far the team's best assist-to-turnover ratio with 42 assists against 23 turnovers. With Pearson having transferred, Harris appeared to stand a solid chance of being the Redhawks' starting point guard this season. Edgar also said there is no news regarding the status of Martino Brock, SEMO most touted incoming recruit. Edgar said SEMO still has not heard back from the NCAA, which is reviewing Brock's eligibility status. Edgar said Brock, a 6-5 wing who would be a freshman, has not arrived in Cape Girardeau to begin classes as he awaits word from the NCAA. A decision is expected any day now. The fall semester at SEMO started Monday. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

This year is going to be a total joke this season. Let's get ready for Football on Thursday night. I think SEMO football has a chance to do some damage this year. 6 wins predicted right here
Marty...when is the deadline by which Brock would need to hear something from the NCAA? Can he start classes a week after everyone else has started?
How many of Semo's basketball recruits are actually going to be eligible to play this season?
Mishow, I hope that you are not working for SE Admissions, because I have a feeling that they wouldn't like your statement about why would he want to "hang" out at SEMO if he wasn't playing. I assume that maybe a year of solid education, which it doesn't sound like he got at Carl Reed HS, wouldn't be a consideration to "hang" out. Plus, if I am not mistaken, wouldn't Brock have to pay part of his way regardless? Wasn't it stated in the Carr Report that SE only funds athletic aid to in state tuition? I'm not clear on that one, but I think that is what it said. Johnny Hill did it, and he is still around, why wouldn't Brock?
I think it matters, because SEMO may miss out on a very good player. I think it matters because if you are a fan, you want your team to be able to keep the talent you sign.
Seriously guys....does it really who's on this team this year?? Don't expect much. Having said that, don't be surprised to see a coaching change after this season.
Who needs Hank Harris or Martino Brock when you've got Scott Edgar Jr. in uniform?!?
Marty are you 100% sure that Brock, if cleared, will be allowed to attend classes? Do you know if he even has been admitted to the university? It seems to me that in jest, you said yesterday, on the radio, that he already was, or you had been told that he was cleared to attend. So what caused you to change your reporting?
K103 reported this morning that Martino Brock will not be eligible per NCAA clearing house ruling and is not enrolled at Southeast.
I think I've been reporting all along that I'd be very surprised if Brock is eligible, based on what I've been hearing. But until anything is official, we'll just have to wait and see.
Semo Mens BB schedule is out. 5 of the first 6 to start the season are away from the Show Me Center.
Semo should still be okay if they can play slow ball, and run only when they have a break. With the big 3 - Kenard, Herring, and Williams returning, Semo still has a chance to make it to Nashville. Watch out for Williams with a year under the belt i believe we will see what he really got.
SEMO has a men's basketball team?
I don't understand why Edgar didn't recruit for guard depth. There is no depth at the guard position. You had to figure that Pearson was leaving, and should plan for these things. Even with Harris, they were thin at the guard spot. We were promised great recruiting, and I have not seen it, yet.
Who cares anymore??
