Sikeston native Blake DeWitt is back in the major leagues.
The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled DeWitt from Triple-A Las Vegas Wednesday. He was optioned to Las Vegas July 26, when the Dodgers acquired infielder Casey Blake from the Cleveland Indians. DeWitt, the Dodgers' opening-day third baseman, hit .257 with five homers and 35 RBIs in 88 games before being sent to Las Vegas, where he hit .303 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games. He was named NL rookie of the month in May, when he hit .322 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games. The 22-year-old DeWitt went 11-for-19 with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in his last four games in the minors. I think he went down to get to know 2nd base better. That's all he played when he was in Vegas. With Kent in the shape he is in. I think its a better fit for Blake.
