Ex-SEMO coaches apply for D-II job in Florida

Posted Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 6:47 AM

This was first brought to my attention through a SemoSportsWeb.com article, but the Pensacola News Journal earlier this week ran names of the 144 people who applied for the men's basketball coaching position at Division II West Florida since the job came open May 27.

On the list is former SEMO coach Scott Edgar, who spent the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons with the Redhawks before being fired for alleged NCAA rules violations.

Also on the list is Tommy Suitts, a SEMO assistant in 2008-09 under acting coach Zac Roman. Suitts was originally brought into the Redhawks program by Edgar.

Another applicant with local ties is Tom Schuberth, Gary Garner's chief recruiter for SEMO's lone Ohio Valley Conference championship and NCAA Division I tournament team in 1999-2000. Schuberth was most recently the coach at Division I Texas-Pan American.

Two former NBA stars -- Nate "Tiny" Archibald and Wayne "Tree" Rollins -- are the biggest names on the list.

According to the News Journal, West Florida's search committee will soon trim the list to about 25 candidates and hopes to have between three and five finalists by July 13. The goal is to have a coach hired by July 31.

What's your problem? Did Marty steal your girlfriend or what?

Correction, SID not AD, sorry.

Let's recap Marty's latest blogs: He blasted local media for reporting something that wasn't a big deal, then he reported it himself. Then he deletes that blog bc everyone ripped him and he was embarrassed and writes a new blog saying he was out of line but that he still agrees with what he wrote (quite an apology). Then he writes a blog about a former semo coach applying for a D2 job like somehow that is more newsworthy than semo hiring a new AD. At least he finally admitted he got scooped. I'm proud of u Marty.

Where were the former NBA stars for the SEMO job?

Too bad Tom was not hired as Nutt's number one assistant. Not many would take an assistant job for 20k....lol
