ASU will limp into Show Me CenterPosted Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 10:42 AM
SEMO's chances of breaking its 20-game losing streak in men's basketball when Arkansas State comes to town Wednesday night have improved considerably.
ASU will be shorthanded after what happened during Monday's season-opening 93-47 rout of Division III MacMurray College. Senior guard Donald Boone, ASU's top scorer from last year and a preseason all-Sun Belt Conference pick, suffered what is believed to be a torn ACL just minutes into the game and will likely miss the season. He definitely won't play Wednesday. ASU projected starting guard Trey Finn was forced to sit out Monday with back spasms and it's uncertain when he'll return, according to the Jonesboro Sun. In addition, starting point guard Rashad Allison pulled a hamstring in the second half and his status for Wednesday is not known at this time.
I know it's just one game, but I was very impressed with the SEMO women's basketball team during Monday's 73-63 upset of a strong Southern Mississippi squad. It's amazing how much the young, inexperienced Redhawks improved in just a week, since their ugly 16-point exhibition loss to Division II Christian Brothers. There are sure to be plenty of rough moments for the Redhawks, since they're so young, but Monday's performance certainly showed their potential. While of course it's still entirely possible that SEMO loses to ASU, I think this improves our chances greatly. It would be awesome to see Nutt get a W this early in the season, especially against his former school.
As for the girls, what an awesome win. I watched most of the second half via the webcast, and I have to say that was a great game by Adams & crew. Not only did they pull off the upset, but way to do it with a 10-point margin of victory. Way to go.
I like our chances against Arkansas State to begin with and this improves our chances immensely. That said, yes it would probably still be surprising to get a win tomorrow night.
The women last night, what more can you say but, WOW!!! Its early in the season but that's a huge win to get.
Put the ball in the hoop.
Does anyone know if Michael Lance gets playing time for ASU? Can't wait to see the game. I think it will be entertaining since it features two local colleges.
The box score from Ark. States' win vs. Macmurray.
Lance played 22 minutes.

The campuses are 3 hours apart, nothing local about it. Regional? Yes. Local? No.
I think gomer is on her period today
Easy there troll. Shouldn't you be making up stuff about pictures and things like that?
Was last year when Ark State played Semo John Brady's first time coaching against Semo since the NCAA tourney when Brady was the coach for LSU?
Good question. I think so. I remember hearing about that 2001 tournament game/seeing the final score, but was it really a close game, or did it just look that way by the final score?
I'm not 100% positive, but I think LSU scored the final 6 points of the game and won by 3, so yes, it was that close. It was a 4-5 point margin, with both teams having leads, the entire second half. It was most certainly as close as the final score made it out to be.
I seem to recall Brian Beshara (LSU) stripping the ball from Antonio Short in the last 2 minutes, denying us a go-ahead score. It was that play, along with Beshara's 3 that changed the game. We had a chance to tie it, but Roderick Johnson ended up with the ball instead of Stokes or Short.

"The Tigers scored the game's final six points. Trailing 61-58, freshman Torris Bright hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 78 seconds left."
"The Indians struggled early but led most of the second half, grabbing a 38-36 edge on a 3-pointer by Emmanuel McCuthison with 12:53 left and trailing just once over the next nine minutes."
And yes, Beshara traveled on his game-winning 3.
No doubt in my mind that SEMO should have won that game. What was great about that game was that a lot of pepole had LSU as their sleeper in that bracket to go to the Final 4 or win the tournament.
I'm glad I don't remember that game, because I would be so ticked if they missed the traveling call and it lost us the game.
"This game will help our program," coach Gary Garner said. "We are a relatively young Division I program and the national exposure that we will get from playing a very good LSU team right to the wire can do nothing but help us."
Really?
semoredhawk,
LOL....I remember that quote as well....at the time, I agree with it 110%...
Coach believed it as well.....
but it didn't worked out that way...why - up for debate...
Look at the program 9yrs later....What happen?
Anyways - He did travel.....winning that game could have meant a lot for the SE program....losing sure didn't help.....the program was rewarded with less money and control...
......
Finally, I think we are moving in the right direction again.....
Winning in the NCAA tournament sure help SIU several year back....more money for the coach and program.....
The 49 tonight is just killin me. I wish we could have at least gotten to the 50 mark. I guess I just have to pinch myself and remember that this is a team full of a bunch of young guys....
Tidal, I believed it as well, except I did make a comment shortly after that on another site at the time that I was a little dissapointed in the post NCAA recruiting. But it wasn't a huge concern at the time to be honest.
This budget stuff is going to get ugly. I hear the two-year schools in MO are going to tell the Gov to pound the rock (if you know what I mean) on this budget/tuition freeze thing, no deal.
Does 1 point make that big of a difference?
I thought the INDIANS' best chance to win a game was at SLU (very young SLU team and early in the season). According to most of the posts it seemed like the injuries to ASU had people excited about the chances to get a home win tonight. Didn't hear the SEMO game as I was listening to the Billiken 69-55 win against Nebraska. Somehow the win tonight looks alot better than the 59-41 win against SEMO. Hard to measure how much better SEMO may or may not be. Majerus seemed slightly impressed with SEMO considering where they were last year, Bob Ramsey even suggested SEMO would compete in the OVC. The young Billikens played poorly in the opener, and missed alot of free throws. They played well tonight, still missing WAY TOO MUCH at the line. Based on the scores you could say SEMO isn't alot worse than Nebraska...but it was two completely different games. The 73-49 loss at home tonight for SEMO when hopes were somewhat high sure clouds the forecast. How did the game go down tonight?
I don't want to judge such a young team but does anyone else look at this team and think "my god, we have no talent". We play hard which is great but the talent just isn't there.
Last year while we were losing our a$$ atleast Williams, Moore and Herring were fun to watch because they could make a play every now and then.
Also, why was Eric McCrary on the bench if he has the flu? Shouldn't he have been in his dorm room away from the team.
Why isn't Johnny Hill Playing?
I agree with Garner the Ncaa appearnce should have helped the program and it would have if the administration had'nt killed the recruitng budget and made it impossible for Garner to keep his coaches
