Nutt still looking to fill coaching staffPosted Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 10:23 PM
SEMO men's basketball coach Dickey Nutt is not having the easiest of times putting together his coaching staff.
Nutt is looking to fill two of his three assistant positions after he decided to let Kyle Gerdeman and Jeremy Case go in early April. Both had been with Nutt during his first three seasons at SEMO. That task has been slowed because a highly regarded coach who had agreed to join the Redhawks changed his mind a few days later. Nutt said he couldn't blame Jeff Strohm, who has been an assistant at Marquette, Utah and Western Kentucky among other programs. Nutt said Strohm was offered a position at Tulane of Conference USA for in the neighborhood of $120,000, which is about twice what SEMO could have paid him. By the way, both Gerdeman and Case have landed on their feet well by finding assistant positions at other Division I programs. Gerdeman was hired at Central Michigan by former SEMO assistant Keno Davis in early May and this week Case was hired at Houston Baptist. Not that it's any of my business but I can't help but wonder why they were BOTH let go with the steady improvement over the past three years? However, I'm sure there were valid reasons to make those moves since it put Coach Nutt in a position to have to fill two spots in such short order.
Coach Gerdeman and Coach Case will be better off. Good for them.
