What's your deal, Anthony Reyes?

It's a measly five days until the Chicago Cubs open their season at beautiful Wrigley Field against the Milwaukee Brewers. It's also five days until the St. Louis Cardinals open their season at Busch Stadium against the Colorado Rockies. I can't wait.Did anyone else catch some of the Major League Baseball season opener in Japan? My daughter decided she wanted to get up early Tuesday, so I was able to catch some of the game. It's weird to watch the season opener a world away. I'm a big baseball fan, and I'd prefer being able to watch the game at a normal hour. What do you think? Does it bother you that the season opener is in Japan? By the way, it was a great game. It's official -- Anthony Reyes really is starting to tick me off. The frustration has been building since last season. Ever since his outstanding performance during the playoffs in 2006, Cardinals fans have raved about his potential. So much for potential last season.
He stunk it up like a pro last season, going 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA. He didn't look like a major leaguer. But this spring he's thrown well. He's 2-1 with a 3.32 ERA. He's struck out 13 and walked three in 19 innings. That's not bad. But according to the AP, Tony La Russa hasn't decided if Reyes will be a starter for the Cardinals. He still might get sent down to start the season in Memphis.
I think it's time for Cardinals fans to have a little heart-to-heart with the flat-hatted one. See, Anthony, it's time to come clean. Are you going to live up to your potential and deliver clutch performances? Or are you going to continue to struggle and keep leading on fans with that carrot of hope? The reason fans are asking is because if you're going to stink and leave fastballs up, then the Cardinals are going to trade you while you've still got some value. So what's it going to be, Anthony? There were a couple impressive performances to choose from for the Reserved spot. We've got Scott City pitcher Ryan Modglin, who delivered another impressive outing for the Rams. Or we have Jackson freshman Kasey Crowden, who scored two goals in her first high school game, which came against rival Central. We've given Modglin the honor a few times, so we're turning it over to the freshman. Congrats Kasey. You've earned the top spot for the day after helping the Indians defeat Central 3-0 on Tuesday. The Southeast Missouri State baseball team is becoming a fun team to watch. The Redhawks have been getting some decent pitching and are hitting for power. It's worth a trip out to Capaha Field to catch them in action. They face Missouri State at 2 p.m. today.Another question, another correct answer from budman. That's how he rolls. He knows his way atop the Throne. Well done. You deserve the honor.
Next question: Who has recorded the most penalty minutes in St. Louis Blues history?Unfortunately the Blues have been eliminated from playoff contention. It seemed like a season filled with promise that quickly went down the toilet. I was talking with a few people this weekend about the Blues, and they argued that they thought things went south when the Blues started tinkering with the lineup during the season. I suppose the point could be argued. What do you think? Where did the season go wrong? |
