Oh Scottie Rolen, where were you?

Oh Scottie Rolen, why did the Cardinals trade away your Gold Glove? Sure, you couldn't get along with the manager, but you were a Gold Glover. Sure you had injury problems, but you were a Gold Glover. He was in the Blue Jays' lineup, manning third base Wednesday night, which is where the Cardinals would have loved to have him.

Instead, the Cardinals were forced to put Felipe Lopez at the hot corner. He proceeded to commit a pair of costly errors in the second inning. As a Cubs fan, I loved it, but Cardinals fans had to be missing Scottie Rolen. Mind you, the good news is that Troy Glaus said there's no structural damage in his shoulder, according to a Derrick Goold story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

So who do you think got the better deal in the Rolen for Glaus trade? Here are the numbers:

Glaus -- batting .269 with 23 homers, 89 RBIs and 64 runs scored

Rolen -- batting .248 with nine homers, 42 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

Throne of Honor

Welcome back, semo99grad. Good to see you again. And congrats on earning the coveted spot atop the Throne. You correctly found that Ryan Ludwick calls Georgetown, Texas, home, according to the Cardinals' Web site bio. Way to go on answering the question correctly and earning another seat atop the Throne of Honor.

Let's get to the next question: Lambeau Field is known as the Frozen Tundra. How many games at Lambeau have been played in temperatures that were either zero degrees or colder?

Reserved Parking

Kelly softball player Casey Kern put together an impressive day, going 3-forr-4 with a triple for the Hawks. Kelly beat Sikeston 11-1 in six innings. Kern has helped the Hawks start the season 7-1. You get to pull into the top spot today, Casey.

Triple Crown watch

Al Pujols lost a little ground in his pursuit of the Triple Crown. Average -- .362 (one point behind Chipper Jones); RBI -- 99 (27 behind Ryan Howard); Homers -- 33 (nine behind Ryan Howard)

Cubs/Cards update

As discussed earlier, it was the defense that undid the Cardinals. The Cubs took advantage and got a monster outing from Ted Lilly. I didn't see that one coming. He'd lost his two previous outings, and after he gave up the run in the first, I thought it was a case of more of the same. But he recovered and found a way to pitch eight strong innings. The loss was twice as tough for the Cardinals because the Brewers and Astros both won. That means the Astros moved into third place. That's crazy. The Astros are on fire, but did they catch fire too late in the season? Their schedule isn't that tough down the stretch. We'll see.

We've got Todd Wellemeyer against Rich Harden tonight. We'll see if Harden actually can pitch. He's been "resting" since Aug. 29, when he took a no decision. He's been phenomenal for the Cubs when he's been able to pitch. We'll see if he's really healthy tonight. The Cardinals go with the former Cub, Wellemeyer. He's 12-6 with a 3.74 ERA. He beat the Cubs on Aug. 9, going 6 2/3 innings and allowing three earned runs. Remember when he was a subpar reliever?

Today's Can't Miss

The Cubs and Cards wrap up their season at Busch. I'll be making the trek to see Rich Harden pitch. It should be another great one -- 7:15 p.m. on FSN Midwest, channel 45 in Cape.

I always think it's funny how everybody thinks Scott Rolen was God's gift to baseball when he wore a Cardinal uniform. Now they wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire. I always knew that guy was overrated. He was certainly worth his salt defensively, but he could never stay healthy. Offensively he just had a couple good years with the Cardinals. When the Cards would reach the playoffs, they basically demontrated his worth since he didn't even play due to injuries. Hell, they won the series without him.

Scott who?

Scott Rolen was a fantastic athlete, who was the best third baseman in the majors for a period of about 3 years. However he has always seemed to have worn out his welcome wherever he has been. It appears to me that he was always more concerned about himself than his team. It's sad to see the injuries hinder his ability to produce at a high level, but I think the Cardinals are better off without him, and more by the addition by subtraction theory, than by the addition of Troy Glaus.

Who is this Scott Rolen? Oh was he that guy who was a little good with the Philadelphia Phillies like 10 years ago?

The idea that Cardinal fans would want him back after he turned his back on St. Louis is laughable. We got a vastly better deal with bringing in Troy Glaus and on top of that we lost a guy who was more trouble in the club house then he was worth.

Three games have been played at zero degrees or lower: 12/31/67, 12/26/93 and 1/20/08
