St. Vincent wins state titlePosted Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 4:21 PM
The St. Vincent girls soccer team got off to a hot start again, and rode the momentum to victory in the Class 1 state championship game Saturday.
The Indians got goals from Emily Cissell, Courtney Besand and Liz Brueckner in their 3-1 victory over Trinity Catholic. Check out Sunday's Southeast Missourian for more on the Indians' title. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Congrats Perryville on your state title!! Once again SE Missouri showed St. Louis & Kansas City that WE ARE THE BEST!!! A ND Alumni from '82, who thinks we in SE MO are THE BEST, ALL the athletes from our area should be VERY proud!! Thanks once again for another GREAT year of high school sports!!
Definitely CONGRATS to SV and they certainly deserve a lot of credit. However, the additional class this year really helped out. There isn't much competition in Class 1. Any idea how many of their girls are going on to play D-1 soccer next year?
If any of you know soccer, the best soccer schools in St. Louis are mostly the larget all-girl schools. That's why you had Incarnate Word and Nerinx Hall play each in the Semi-Final. You can add Cor Jesu to the mix in the Quarter-finals.
redhawks07 your comments have no merit. First of all did you even go to any of the games this year to make a comment that there wasn't much competition in class 1? Who cares how many Class 1 girls are going to a D-1 college. I'm sure there are a couple from the St. Louis teams because they get most of the attention in girls soccer. If a team does have a player going to a D-1 college then its usually just one or two and that certainly does not make a State Championship team. As you should know it takes a team to win a championship. Also prior to this year MSHSAA had schools with 200 to 500 in attendance playing schools with up to 1200. By adding another class they have just leveled the field. Your comment is like saying the Notre Dame Baseball team did not accomplish anything this year because they didn't beat the Fort Zumwalt class 4 team.
St. Vincent was a very skilled and athletic soccer team that deserved the State Championship. This team also beat and competed with class 2 and class 3 teams during the regular season. Congratulations to the players and coaching staff for a tremendous season. Can't wait until next year.
