The spring season officially is overPosted Monday, June 8, 2009, at 12:27 AM
It was a great run for teams in the Southeast Missourian coverage area this spring, as the Notre Dame baseball team and St. Vincent girls soccer team wrapped up state titles. Congratulations to both teams.
The Bulldogs put together an impressive season, dropping just one game on their way to the title. Their top two pitchers were incredible, and the offense provided plenty of support. The Indians got on a hot streak and never stopped. I got the chance to cover both of their games at the state tournament and they dominated. The scary thing is that most of St. Vincent's talent returns next season. The team only had three seniors. Unfortunately, the end of the spring season means some change in our sports department as well. Christopher Smith, our talented high school reporter, has decided to leave the Missourian. He's heading home to the Boston area to pursue some other passions. We're going to miss him around the office, but we wish him all the best.
