My team will win the Christmas Tournament

Posted Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 12:37 PM

I know we're only two days deep into the tournament, but there have been some outstanding performances so far. So I'm going to pick my team that I'd want to win the whole shootin' match. I'm picking six and hoping my team doesn't get into foul trouble. If it does, we'll be in trouble.

Our team name? The Semoball Banana Slugs. We'll need to pick up cheerleaders somewhere, so if you have some cheering experience, join the Banana Slug Bandwagon. And we're riding in style. We won't travel on school buses. We'll travel by helicopter. We're a classy team.

OK, the point guard is obvious -- Scott County's Bobby Hatchett. The kid can do it all. Bobby, you're on point.

Next I need another guard. I want someone who can score a little, take care of the ball some and get the job done. I'm taking Central's Kevin Casasola. The kid's putting together a nice tournament so far. Put on your Banana Slugs jersey, Mr. Casasola.

When it comes to forwards, I've got some good choices. Every inside game has to start with Scott County's Otto Porter. No surprise there. Porter's a Slug.

Next give me Notre Dame's Jacob Tolbert. Talk about another scorer. And he's got some range, so he'll help extend the defense. Welcome aboard, Jacob.

I need another athletic scorer, so come join the team, Jon Morrow. Oran's 6-foot-4 junior will be able to keep up with Porter and Hatchett. He'll give us another tall presence in the paint. You're a Slug now, Jon.

OK, so those are my starters. Now I need one guy to come off the bench. I'll take Advance's Luke Steil. He's a scrappy player who can handle the ball and shoot. If anyone gets into foul trouble, Steil can step in and make the Slug faithful proud.

So that's my team. What do you think? Who would you put on your team? Using only the players in this year's Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament, put together a team that will beat mine. Good luck.

A "true" point guard should be able to shoot the ball!

The starting line up that I would pick would be Bobby Hatchett and Otto Porter, James Lane and Jacob Tolber and Ke-Ke Kellum. My sixth and seventh man would be Landon Robert and Nathan Michelsen. Ke-Ke Kellum would be my true point guard. He brings defense and leadership to the team. He knows how to read the floor. He can take charge and he can get his big man the ball so they can score. Bobby Hatchett would play my shooting guard position. I believe Bobby and Ke-Ke will work good together. I saw them play on an AAU team together. Jacob would be my weak forward position due to he can dribble, shoot and play defense and then James Lane would play the forward position and Otto my Center. Second team I would have Andrew Williams, Deonte Jones, Greg Tucker, Nick Koeppel, and Logan Mangel. The sixth and 7th man would be Leonard Schaefer and Henry Williams

I think this article was a gross waste of space!
