Carr Trophy
Kendrickus Reed picked up the Carr Trophy tonight, becoming the third Caruthersville running back in four years to earn the award given to the "best high school football player in Southeast Missouri."
Reed rushed for 2,537 yards and scored 144 points for the 7-5 Tigers.
Adam Cecil won the award in 2004, filling in for an injured Reed that season, while Jimmy Jackson, now at Mizzou, won the award in 2003.
Other award winners at the 61st annual Poplar Bluff Letter Club Gridiron Banquet included:
Outstanding Lineman Awards:
* North: Ben Wood, Jackson
* Central: Alex Watkins, Dexter
* South: Tony Jones, East Prairie and Ryan McGee, Malden
Conference Scoring Awards:
* North: Asa Wyatt, Poplar Bluff, 81 points
* Central: Reed, Caruthersville, 144 points
* South: Trey Porter, Malden, 98 points
Conference Coach of the Year:
* North: Brian Robbins, Poplar Bluff
* Central: Arlen Pixley, New Madrid
* South: Gary Blaylock, Malden and Charlie Vickery, Chaffee
School Sportsmanship Award presented by the SEMO Officials Association: Chaffee
Conference Champs:
* North: Poplar Bluff, 2-1 (won head-to-head with Jackson, also 2-1)
* Central: New Madrid, 4-0
* South: Malden, 5-0
The banquet at Poplar Bluff High School also honored the All-Conference teams which were led by Jackson in the North with 12 spots, Dexter (11) and New Madrid (10) in the Central and Malden (9) in the South.

I can't speak for how anybody voted but I could see how both coaches got votes. Both turned their programs in a better direction. How many games in a row did Chaffee lose coming into the season? And Malden went from 3-6-1 to 8-2 and unbeaten in SEMO play.
