PB HOF Class of 2007
This story will run in Sunday's DAR:
LaRita Hawes, John David Pattillo and Steve Rowland will be inducted into the Poplar Bluff Sports Hall of Fame this fall.
The three were elected earlier this week by the Hall of Fame Directors and will be inducted on Thursday, Spet. 27.
Hawes was an All-American at Southeast Missouri State University and long jumped over 20 feet. She still holds the Poplar Bluff record in both the long and triple jumps.
Pattillo played two sports at Poplar Bluff and baseball in college before coaching basketball for 11 years. His teams won 223 games, six conference titles, six districts titles and two Class 5 state championships.
Rowland was a three-sport athlete at Poplar Bluff where he set the triple jump mark. He ran at the University of Mississippi where he was an Academic All-SEC and placed 10th in the NCAA National Decathlon Championships. He also qualified for the 1996 Olympic Trials.
The Poplar Bluff Sports Hall of Fame is located at the Poplar Bluff Museum on Main Street and is open each Sunday.
I'm off to the golf course for the first round of the Ozark Invitational. It's hard work but somebody's got to do it. Enjoy your Saturday.
