New turf for Morrow Stadium?
I always make a point to read the school board stories because you never know what sports-related topic you'll see. This from Friday's DAR:
[Poplar Bluff] Superintendent Ernie Lawson told the board a group of community members had approached the administration and expressed their desire to form the "Touchdown Club." Lawson said this group wanted to raise money to put turf on the football field and to purchase a new scoreboard.
Next fall, Morrow Stadium will host five varsity football games and eight games for the eighth, ninth and JV teams, which all practice at other locations. There are also youth football games played there in the fall as well as track meets during the spring and summer.
The soccer teams do not play at Morrow Stadium because the field is too small and not flat enough.
A new scoreboard is already on AD Bill Caputo's wish list. He had a new wireless control system in place this past fall and hopes to upgrade the scoreboard in the near future.
As far as I can recall, the Mules have not won at Houck since it added the FieldTurf system in May 2000 and lost its only game since Farmington added it. (I'm working on a column on this subject when I get back from vacation.)
Football is one thing, but this seems crazy to me:
