JEFFERSON CITY -- Ben Wood of St. Louis birdied six holes and shot a 4-under-par 68 to take the first-round lead.

Playing in his hometown, Conner McHenry eagled the par-5, 559-yard second hole and the par-5, 523-yard 12th to finish a shot back. A group of three golfers will start today's final round of stroke play tied at 1-under.

Justin Bardgett, Kirk Farmer and Brian Haskell each shot even-par 72 to lead the early morning rounds but finished tied for sixth.

Todd Obergoenner of Cape Girardeau is in a group of 11 golfers a shot back and tied for 12th. Kent Phillips is tied for 37th at 3-over 75. Blake Driskell (82) is 124th.

Poplar Bluff's Bobby and Ben Godwin are tied for 23rd at 2-over 74.

Others from Poplar Bluff include James Vernon, tied at 63rd following a 77, Tyler Hillis is tied for 68th at 78 and Logan MacDonald, who is tied for 78th at 79. Jake Robertson shot an 83 and is tied for 130th with Troy Bell (83). Brandon Lee (84) is tied for 139th.

Dexter's Dax Demaree is also 78th at 79 with Tyler Holden while Doniphan's Luke Chailland is a stroke back tied for 98th with Dexter's Kyle Christian. Ken Ozbun of Malden shot an 85 and is tied for 145th.

The top 64 players after Wednesday's round advance to match play which continues until Sunday's 36-hole final.

Buddy Godwin won his 1973 Amateur title at Jefferson City Country Club, a 6,959-yard course that last hosted the tournament in 1993. That year the cut was 154.
