MoAm Match play
Ben Godwin faces a familiar test today at the 100th Missouri Amateur.
The defending champion plays Darren Lundgren in the Round of 32 at Jefferson City Country Club in a rematch of last year's semifinal.
Godwin won his first-round match 1 up Thursday against Scott Glenn of Wichita, Kan., advancing to the second round for the fifth time in six years.
Bobby Godwin lost his match, 2 and 1, to Springfield's Michael Carroll while Logan MacDonald lost 1 up to Columbia's Joshua Brady.
In other matches Thursday, top-seeded Connor McHenry won 5 and 3 while second-seeded Travis Mitchell won 2 and 1. Brian Haskell of St. Joseph, last year's runner-up, won 4 and 3.
The tournament continues until Sunday's final match.
Last year, Ben Godwin beat Lundgren 2 and 1 to advance to the 36-hole championship match. During the two-day stroke play tournament this week, Lundgren shot a 5-over 149 and was tied for 21st. Lundgren finished ahead of Godwin at the Ozark Invitational in April, finishing tied for 10th with a 3-over 145 at Westwood Hills Country Club.
Godwin, who also won the Amateur title in 2003, reached the semifinals in '04 and the quarterfinals in '02.
Godwin's father Buddy won his Amateur title at Jefferson City Country Club in 1973.
No updates Friday, I'm off (happy birthday Jen).
