Too busy for a column
It's a good thing Jim Litke has time to write a column (Sunday's DAR), because I don't. Instead, here's a few short items that might have made the paper had I not been working on a feature story for later this week.
As mention in an earlier post, you can check out North Carolina's "Late Night with Roy" here. and here.
Bad news: Poplar Bluff QB Todd Bullington was on crutches when he arrived at practice Saturday. Good news: He didn't have a cast on his injured ankle. No news: I'll know more Wednesday when I meet with coach about if he'll be ready for Cape Central.
And yes, Bullington did break his finger the week before the jamboree but has not missed a game. Austin Sutton, the backup QB, also plays wide receiver, is a starting cornerback, kicks, and is on all return teams. He's this year's Asa Wyatt.
A few more things about Friday's Bluff-Jackson football game:
-- Does Jackson need a student section? With the size of the team and band, are there any students left? Jackson's band is bigger than the graduating class of all six OFC schools this year.
-- Why is it called The Pitt when the stadium is more like on the side of a hill? Shouldn't it be The Bluff?
-- After seeing Farmington and Jackson the last two weeks, I'd say they're both pretty even. I'd like to see Jackson's defense against Farmington's offense, which Jackson coach Carl Gross called a "NASCAR offense." They're certainly the top two teams in the area, with Hayti thrown in there as the top small school.
Finally, there must be something about the water here in the Bluff. Westwood Hills won the SEMO Cup golf tournament again Saturday. My 6-year-old son loves golf and since I moved here, my golf game has gotten better (I lose fewer balls).
No comments, I've got to do real work Sunday (whatever the wife needs done).
