Union City 92, Raytown South 90: Pat Polk's prayer put the Golden Tornadoes into the finals Friday night.
Polk banked in a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer to finish an improbable rally.
Trailing by 13 with 2:45 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Union City (15-0) pulled within one with 35 seconds remaining. Raytown South's Rian Pearson missed a pair of free throws before Union City's M.J. Brown waited to take the final shot.
The 6-foot senior made his move with 7 seconds left but was whistled for an offensive foul driving from the left wing. Brown then fouled out before the ensuing inbound pass with 3.5 seconds showing, sending Maurice Woodard to the line where he missed both free throws.
Polk pulled down the rebound, dribble through two Cardinals and threw up a 57-foot bomb that hit high off the backboard and rattled in for the victory.
The Cardinals (4-4) made 7-of-18 free throws in the final quarter, missing eight in the final 2:03.
Brown scored 19 of his 39 points in the fourth quarter for Union City.
Dominique Newton led South with 34 points.
The two teams combined for 50 points in the first quarter and were tied 45-45 at halftime. South surged ahead in the third quarter by scoring 15 straight points midway through the period. The Cardinals led 65-57 after three quarters and by as many as 13.
After a Newton layin put South ahead 85-72 with 2:45 to go, Union City put together an 11-2 in 89 seconds by forcing turnovers with a full-court press or quickly fouling. South broke the press and Pearson scored with 52 seconds remaining for an 89-85 lead but Newton fouled out and Brown hit two free throws to cut the deficit to two.
Woodard hit 1-of-2 free throws and Brown knocked down a pull-up jumper in the lane to set up the final frenzy.
Harrison 64, Liberty Tech 61: Johnny Fidell gave the Hoyas the lead midway through the fourth quarter and hit all four of his free throws in the final 20 seconds to hold off the Crusaders.
Fidell, who scored eight of his 15 points in the final quarter, hit a 14-footer to break a 49-49 tie with just under 5 minutes remaining. His layin with 30 seconds left put Harrison up 60-55, but Charles Holt hit three straight free throws then knocked down a 3-pointer over two defenders to cut Liberty's deficit to one with 13.4 seconds left.
Fedell hit two free throws with 10.8 on the clock and a last-second 3 by Liberty fell short.
Matt Sundberg, the 3-point contest winner, led Harrison with 18 points while Kevin Jackson added 15 for the Hoyas (9-2).
Holt finished with 23 points for Liberty while Tarvis Johnson added 17.
