My wife's NFL picks
My wife and I will celebrate our first wedding anniversary Sunday by snuggling on the couch in front of the fireplace and … watching the NFL playoffs.
Since our relationship started with a football bet -- more on that later -- I've invited Jennifer to give us her picks for this weekend's game. Here they are in her own words:
Brian thought it would be fun to do football picks these last few weeks. This will be the second time we have done this, the first being in March when he had me fill out a bracket for the NCAA tournament. Without going into details and reopening old wounds, I'll just say I did pretty good. Anyway, I am not going to doing any spreads because I don't really understand them nor care that much about how it works or why. If you would like that information then check out espn.com.Here are my picks, I am going purely on intuition and what little I know about these teams and my own personal feelings:
Seahawks over Redskins - The Seahawks have really been stepping up lately. Plus I like Mike Holmgren. I have never been much of a Redskins fan, however I can't help but feel badly for them.
Jags over Steelers -- Now this I don't like to say, I secretly love the Steelers. If I was an AFC fan I think that I would be Steelers all the way. I never have cared much for the Jags, they seem to have such a big bully mentality. But the Steelers just haven't been that great, and even though they have never lost two games to the same team at home in their history (hey Brian, are you impressed!) I have a gut feeling it will happen this time. Hopefully it's just indigestion!
Giants over Bucs -- I really don't have much to say about these two teams. I picking the Giants because something just said go for it. I don't know too much about either team except that Eli Manning is the QB for the Giants and that Dungy use to coach the Bucs.
Chargers over Titans -- The Chargers have always been a likable team to me if only because they have always suck so bad kind of like the Browns. They just make you want to root for the underdog. Yeah they suck, but hey they are still out there giving their best! These last couple of years though, they have actually not been too bad. The same goes for the Browns. As far as the Titans go, see above reasoning on the Jags. I feel the same way about them. I just can't get behind them, to bad too, because I love the state of Tennessee.
With that said and done--- GO PACK GO!!
I'm going to be a good husband and agree with my wife on at least one pick -- Jacksonville winning at Pittsburgh. The Steelers have a long injury list and a first-year coach while the Jags have the edge in the running game. See a preview here.
I wanted to go with Tennessee but questions about the health of QB Vince Young and the loss of WR Roydell Williams makes the Titans a tough pick. San Diego will move on. Preview here.
I'm going to pick Tampa Bay for the same reason Jennifer picked the Giants -- Eli Manning. Preview here.
You can't pick against Washington and you can't pick Seattle, which won 10 games but six were against the Niners, Cardinals, Rams and Falcons who were a combined 20-44. Preview here.
UPDATE
Jennifer is 4 for 4 while I'm 2 for 4. It's going to be a long week of her pointing that out every chance she can.
Also, Poplar Bluff alum Brent Little signed with the Vikings over the weekend.
