Bluff 61, Dexter 53 *update
Dexter and Jackson will share the SEMO Conference title and Poplar Bluff will try to join them after the Lady Mules' come-from-behind win Wednesday night.
Poplar Bluff must beat Doniphan tonight to share the title.
Dexter led 27-17 at halftime but Poplar Bluff went on a 16-4 run to start the second half, taking the lead on a steal and layin by Aereill Davis with 2:30 left in the third quarter. Stefanie Ferguson and Davis hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Poplar Bluff led 41-35 heading into the final quarter.
Dexter tied the game at 46-46 with 4:28 to go and had a chance to take the lead only to turn the ball over, one of 22 turnovers. Ferguson hit two free throws and Davis followed with a 3-pointer. After the teams traded a free throw, Davis got another steal and layin with 1:30 to go giving Poplar Bluff a 54-47 lead. Ruthie Johnson also got a steal and layin before Dexter ended a four-minute field goal drought to pull within 56-49.
Poplar Bluff hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 41 seconds to ice the win.
Davis scored 21 for Poplar Bluff while Johnson scored 13 off the bench.
Ashlee Taylor scored 18 points to lead Dexter (19-4), while Cathryn Heil added 17.
Should Doniphan beat the Lady Mules tonight, Dexter and Jackson will still tie for the conference title since both finished SEMO play at 7-1. There is no tiebreaker in basketball unlike football, PBHS AD Bill Caputo said.
