March begins early
Busy night Friday at Bess Activity Center in Bluff.
First, the Greenville girls won the Class 3 District 1 title, 66-60 over Twin Rivers. Sara Woodgeard scored a game-high 28 points, including 12 of Greenville's 17 fourth-quarter points. Tara Porter scored 11 and Lindsay Henson added nine for the Lady Bears (21-4). Briana Johnson scored 24 points to lead Twin Rivers (12-14).
Then, word came that the Three Rivers Raiders beat State Fair 68-54 in the Region XVI semifinals at Hillsboro. DAR's Alex Abate was there and will be there tomorrow night when the Raiders take on MSU-West Plains, a 77-60 winner over Mineral Area. The championship game starts at 7 p.m. Saturday.
In the second game at The Bess, Doniphan edged Malden in a defensive battle 49-43. Charles Wilson scored a game-high 27 points for the Dons (22-4). Nick Perkins scored 21 to lead Malden (21-7).
Finally, after the games were finished TRCC women's coach Jack Childress got word that his Lady Raiders will host their Region XVI playoff game Tuesday against Mineral Area. The Lady Raiders won a coin toss Friday night after MAC beat Crowder 73-70 to tie TRCC in the final standings.
After five days, eight games and 455 miles of driving to Greenville (twice), Farmington, Chaffee (shout out to the guys working the concession stand) and TRCC, I'm going into hibernation.
