Bluff football coach update
Interviews started Thursday for Poplar Bluff's next football coach, athletic director Bill Caputo said. As of this morning there were four candidates he said, with the possibility of more interviews.
I don't have specific details of the candidates but, I'm going to try to get something for Sunday's paper (hopefully, because I'm working on spring previews for tomorrow, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday).
The school board meets a week from tonight, March 20, so there's a possibility that a new coach could be named soon. As soon as Caputo lets me know, I'll post it here.
This will be Poplar Bluff's third football coach in seven years. The Mules can return seven defensive starters and 10 on offense from a team that finished 5-5. It was the first time since 2003 that Poplar Bluff did not finish with a losing record.
Brian Robbins, who had coached at Poplar Bluff the last two seasons, stepped down Feb. 20 to become the head football coach at Hillsboro.
Poplar Bluff, Jackson and Cape Central will each have new football coaches next fall, while the SEMO North will also add Farmington.
