Brian Rosener
Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

Mules have new helmet

The Poplar Bluff Mules football team will sport new logos and uniforms this fall. Last season the Mules had "Bluff" on the side of the helmet while two years ago it was "PB" on just the right side. You can see examples here of the recent logos and I'm hoping to do a story on the history of Poplar Bluff's logo as we get ready for the football season.

If anybody knows of changes to other area teams that the Mules play, please let me know so I can change our logos for the paper.

Fall practice starts two weeks from Monday. Not only does the football team have a new coach in Shane Kearbey, but soccer, softball and volleyball also have new coaches. I'll be catching up with them this week and doing a series of stories in future editions of the DAR with some Q&A stuff on this blog.

Poplar Bluff fans can get schedules of all the sports, and other info at the athletic department's Web site pbmules.com.

Also, former Mules wide receiver Brent Little is a member of the San Jose SaberCats practice squad. The SaberCats play the Philadelphia Soul on Sunday (July 27) in the Arena Bowl (2 p.m. on ABC) .
